Don't buy that crap.

If you can wait till september I'll bring you some 12 mile range jobbies from Florida. cost £50 to you

can get lesser range for cheaper if you want.

No offence taken

If you get a Maplins propa one make sure it's got the same frequencies as the ESC Argos cheapy ones.

Otherwise you will only have yourself to talk to.And when we say we are stopping for fuel you won't know

Yes they are crap but are your long range jobbies the same frequencies as people are already using. If not you are going to have to refit the whole ESC.

Or is that your master plan.

Group buy on illegal radios anyone?

If you get the argos ones you'll pretty much need to be keeping each other in visual contact anyway so he'll know when you're pulling off.

I bought some in the US - I think 5 mile range. The only thing is they operate on the coastguard band here, but as I'm in the midlands I doubt it will be a problem

I've got several different types. My latest cheapy additions were from Argos - about £30 for a pair. They're pretty good on batteries and have a half decent range (half a mile ish in built up areas).

If you intend to mainly use them to communicate with the keeper of the other handset, then I would go for the ones with lots and lots of channels. This will hopefully stop you having to listen to the ESC all day long :P

Hmm. So say i'm in a convoy of 20 cars & I want to let them know i'm going into the next services for a dash & splash & I do not want them to follow me & i'll catch them up.

I have to ring 20 numbers & repeat the same message 20 times.

Unless I could get them all on "conference call".

Moby is ok for one to one,not so good for one to twenty.

ESC convoys always go "large".

Also I think everyone has missed the point of the original question.Simon wanted to know what we are using already so he can buy compatable gear.He doesn't need to know that you can get stuff that has a ten billion mile signal radius & will knock out every emergency service radio within the county.Reminds me of the AM days.I'm going all misty eyed now.
