Ok to start i been the owner of a 95 wrx sti wagon for last year and a bit .i know the bloke i brought it from was a registered member here and as my memory stands me it was scooby john or some thing like that .(it black and did have the morreli lights that was brought here as a job lot if i do belive right)

well how do i put it ???

i just done a two week holiday in the isle of wight (nice as it was ya gana learn)

well last day and speedo stops working


dam i think whats happening here.is it CABLE or SENSOR ??

well low and behold not two mins later and engine check comes on

would this be connected or has my 1st question asked enough

well i managed to get home from my two lovely weeks just but car is sick and need adivce .she would drive but not under presure if i put me foot down she would back fire and cough.but if slow throttle response she would drive as normal.(i live in essex and i drove from pourtsmouth home) the car was aklo back fireing loads on the let off of throttle .PLEASE HELP


also just to add roads was great but if it cost a couple of ££ i guess not

Don't panic, it's most likely just a faulty speed sensor. This means that your engine management system has put the car into 'limp home mode' as a precaution. Limp home mode usually restrict the car to 4000rpm and cuts boost, hence your poor performance. A new speed sensor and an ECU reset at your local independent specialist will sort it!

ok thanks thats sounds about right to me .not that i got any idea but do understand the princibles of cars.i glad ya could understand what i wrote i not the best person in the world of making my point clear.


right next question .as i said above i come from essex near the thurrock bridge. where is my closest and most reliable place to get this all checked out.and what type of dosh we talking about here .will i need all the gizmos reset and it rolling roaded again

one other thing i like about owning a scooby is the drivers all seem to be the same as bike riders and flash wave etc etc when ever two pass .good job scooby for bringing a few people closer together .

My 96 WRX had a similar problem. Within 10 minutes of picking it up from the dealer, speedo went off and the engine warning light came on. It was traced to the connection at the back of the speedo being loose. Dealer fixed it there and then and no problems since.

 

Hopefully it's just a loose speedo cable on the back of the dash or the top of the gearbox which is a five minute fix. Worst case is that the kph to mph converter has died. A replacement is around £120 from what I remember.
When I had the speedo stop and CEL come on in my 95 WRX it was a melted speedo cable from where it was resting on a new downpipe. It jammed and then jumped off the top of the gearbox! The car ran fine but wouldn't go above 4000rpm!
I'm afriad I don't know which garages are around your way but anyone who knows their way round an Impreza should be Ok.

Scooby specialist xstreamscoobies boreham(near chelmsford) speacialscoobys,colchester,one of these should sort u out.

 

cheers guys .keep em coming .the more know how is a better options than a main dealer.(i did forget to say it a wagon jap import)(94/5 dvla wasn't sure lol)(been normally tuned at power engineering) would i be best going back as they fitted most of the stuff like boast control and aftermarket ecu etc

 

You could go back to PE as they know your car's history. Most Subaru dealers won't touch it as it's an import.

Or give Xtreme Scoobies a look.That's where lots of the ESC take their cars to be fettled including me.

if i could swear here i would add a f at the front of brilliant.kind concerned and genuine to boot.never going back to pe as the bills i had from last owner meant i had to win lottery to keep it to that stanstard as i thought.nope honest theses guys are bloody great
