What are these times like?

It was my first ever time doing anything like this, it was kinda scary and fun as the man was getting me to the line correctly, the go sign, time to get the revs up and the light going. Its all very bloody quick and i messed up a couple times, car just bogged down got lots of grip and lost the revs and just died big time.

Taking into account it was running on a crazy hot day and i was only running 0.2secs behind a Nismo R34 skyline i thought it was a good start, i was trying to hold her at around 5000rpm and slip the clutch until i felt it was ready to lift of completely. I think i need to get better at timing that!

Are these about right for a 340bhp Impreza STi8?

By best times:

0-60: 5.11
1/8 mile: 8.468

 

0-60 time in that sort of region is very much driven by how hard you launch, 1/8 mile fairly well so as well. If you sauntered gently off the line, the times are impressive. With a clutch-life-shortening non-mechanically-sympathetic as hard as you can make it go type launch, they'd be less so noting that the STi PPP is quoted as 4.6, IIRC.

 

340 BHP at 5.11 seconds. thats not that good to be honest. P1s do this easy with 280 bhp

 

I was being gentle because well i am currently trying to look after her and i cant afford clutch after clutch. So i wasnt killing it to pull off. Pretty gentle really.

So If i had given it harder i should have got lower. It was just so hot, no cold air cant be good?

 

Did it give you a 1/4 mile time and terminal speed?

No chap. it was only an 1/8 mile track! It was set up at part of the show

 

Hot weather won't have helped. 5.11 with a "pretty gentle" launch in hot weather is probably about right for a 340bhp bugeye/blobeye STi, certainly doesn't sound to be a big problem - but the launch is so relevant it's impossible to say much more.

Btw, STi8 is technically the 02MY bugeye car, and not the blobeye that I guess you may actually have. You're better off to say 03STi or whatever, avoids confusion. You'll find a few people on here (not least Mike Wood from Prodrive) will pick you up on that one!

 

Everyone I know calls the blobeye an sti8, including the mod shops I frequent.

I've got an 03STI, its actually an STI9. Confusing isnt it.

Thats why people in the know call them by the model year and whether UK or JDM.

 

Skunk - it may work for you, but (a) it's wrong (b) it's potentially confusing and (c) I'd listen to prodrive over the mod shops you frequent

 

Huh? Everyone keeps telling me that my scooby is an STi8.

So its an Sti9? I got the 04 plate facelifted model but with DCCD

 

One line of argument goes - STi7 was 2001, STi8 - 2002, STi9 - 2003, STi10 - 2004, STi11 - 2005. On that basis, you might well have an STi10. A lot of people do call all the bugeyes STi7 and blobeyes STi8's. My view is that as there are two schools of thought, it's easier to call yours an 04STi rather than give it a version number - as there is then no scope for confusion.
