Ditch spare, jack and wheel brace, only half fill tank, and clear out all the maps and stuff from the glove box. Can feel a difference for sure.

 

carpets and rear seats plastic windows, titanium exhaust, stainless manifold, rooflining, sound deadening, light weight wheels, alloy suspention

 

Core drilled holes behind plastic panels, removed most of the metal from behind the door cards, removed all unwanted brackets and stuff from the floor, removed all the underseal, removed the carpet and headlining.






Did I mention this was our rally car?

Seriously, sound-deadening in several places adds a few kg, spare wheel and tire, big ICE install, tools etc, but one of the biggest things for many people is about 25-30kg for aircon. Personally I want some sound deadening, a spare wheel, decent ICE and aircon. If it wasn't my daily drive, I might see things differently.

 

Is it a major task to remove the air con??

remove the carbon cannister, remove the foglights, fit a low level spoiler, small lightweight alloy wheels, junk the aircon, stainless headers, ditch the cats/oe exhaust and fit a light one not just a loud one. spare wheel, jack, tool kit all in the bin.
carbon bonnet if your serious.

 

All of the above and one tow hitch from the front, light weight battery in the boot, carbon panels,bonnet,boot,wing mirrors & door cards. Wind-up windows.The driver.

The list goes on and on. I'd love to know who has the lightest impreza and what weight it is.

The lightest i read of is 1010Kg, that's about 25/30% off.

So you could have a 'racer' with a Power to Weight of about 400bhp/tonne.
A cost of about 8K to do it (engine/carbon etc)

Nobody does fibre glass panels, only carbon.
You could always make some mind......

Ashtray, Ciggie lighter and cubby hole removed
Roof courtesy light removed

Rear corner skirts
Roof lining
Seat belts
Grill
Carpet
Centre console
The lighter it gets the faster it will go.

I will stick it on the local weighbridge at the weekend with a full tank and post up the weight.

do the seats weigh that much? i know you can get carbon/kevlar seats that weight 4-5kg. grant where did you get your exhaust from/made by? was it expensive?

The seats in a std WRX 95 wiegh 70 kilos between them, the reason i know this is i swapped a gent on here for his Cobra buckets which wieghed 30 kilos between them and i sent the std seats through DHL, whom i work for. I put them on the scales to find out before i packed them and the wieght was about 70 kilos.

The side exit was made up by the local exhaust fabricator for £350 for the full system including the WRC downpipe.

i also noticed the car feels slower at big speeds with the hoop spoiler. cant bare to get rid though. or the huuuuge install that weighs 40kg's . shame on me!!!!

crappy ebay angel lights that melt though. theyre lighter than the stock ones too. £135 down the pan! DOH!

Just put my MY99uk car on the weigh bridge, it's got a few of the usual mods but nothing of the serious weight saving kind and it was 1280kg with a full tank and all the fluids topped up, quite good i thought!

just removed the sound proofing (big floppy sheet of spongy/leathery stuff) from in between my rear seats and boot. weighing in at 2kilos. hmm what next? anyone taken the air con pump and rad out 93 wrx?

 

what i did-

remove air con pump and rad
remove one of the cooling fans
remove towing eyes
remove spare wheel and jack (replaced with a tin of tyreweld)
replace wing mirrors with carbon fiber ones
remove loads of sound deadening
lightend flywheel
replace front pulleys with ally ones
stainless exhaust manifold

 

jonny gav how much of an **** is it to do the a/c? ive had a quick look and mine. looks like it may have fluid running through it? reason i say this is it has what looks like some hoses with banjo bolts like the oil feed ones to the turbo. if its just a matter of undoing stuff (no oily crap and danger of wrecking stuff) then ill have a bash. i imagine theres 10kg in the pump and rad + the coolant would be more efficiant.

you are lucky, the stuff inside the air con system is a gas so the is nothing to mop up, be careful though as the gas is very harmful is inhailed.

you will see a blue cap on the top of one of the pipes on the near side of the car.

undo the cap and you will find a pressure release valve, use something to jam the valve open, think i used a small peace of wood and stand back as not the breath in any of the gas that escapes.

when its stoped making a hissing noise you can start removing the rest of the system.

its an easy job to be honest

 

and if anyone catches you doing that you will end up with a massive fine and also be in jail!

best just take it to a garage that works with air con and get them to empty the system first FWIW
