Thats my point, it does run when the aircon is of. So removing the fan would efect the temp, maby only in extreme conditions but it still makes a diference. Also sugest you get a aftermaket temp, if you must remove the second fan.........

yer. i know alot of people locally that have don the fan thing and have / still are ok. all it means is when sat in traffic for a long time when the fan ('s) come on it will take longer for the temp to drop again. its very rare i do any city driving anyways.

the fans would need to draw more air through the air con rad to keep the rad cooler, as the a/c rad will restrict the flow, and will already be taking the colder air, so in theory, 1 fan should be more than enough, esp as the non air con cars only have 1.

just my thoughts

exactly non air con cars dont have condensor restricting cold air flow.
so they only need one fan.
definately safe with one fan!

will you not gain just by removing the belt for the aircon as it's one less pully to turn

no mate, it's the 20 kg's saved by taking it all out that helps the most, yes the pulley robs bhp, not nearly as much as when it's turned on, but we are talking about weight saving for quicker acceleration here, you wont gain nearly as much by just taking the belt off, and it's not hard to re-fit when you come to sell the car (unless you have sold the A/C!)

right ive just weighed my standard wrx battery. 17 kilo's !!!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...obybattery.jpg

i have still got a decent battery from one of my AXGT'S so ive weighed that and its 4 kilo's lighter than the factory subaru one. the new light battery spins the starter just as quick as the factory one and my install doesnt seem to suffer.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...eryinscoob.jpg

all i have to do is make a small plate for the top of the battery. this is to allow the battery security bracket to do its job a little better as this "new" battery is not as tall or wide.

as i use the car 6 days a week im sure it will be sweet.

Old bonnet 15.5kg, replaced with alloy bonnet 8kg. Saving 7.5kg. Sweeeeet....

Replaced standard radiator (two thermo fans and metal shrouds) with a higher capacity race radiator and one plastic shrouded fan. More cooling for the same weight...

Can I replace the metal pulley cover (over alternator) with a plastic one from a newage WRX?

Cosmetic purposes rather than weight saving - mine's a bit sh!tty...

incidentally i recently did some drag runs with my interior mostly stripped out (only carpet, drivers seat and front door cards remained (as well as the dash and center console)

in total a saving of 70kgs.

Before my best 1/4 was 13.742 @ 102.1

After it was 13.369 @ 104mph, so a decent improvement

Chris - I've got a tin of DBM from Halfrauds (need to give my wedges a respray before the weekend ) and I have thought about that or using just plain old black, but while on the subject of weightsaving, I wondered how heavy it was as it does look a bit chunky.

...or I could go the carbon route

carbon bonnet if your serious.
just wanted to dig up this old thread. i have recently bought a carbon bonnet. my old alloy one was ablout 3 kilos lighter. whats going on there?

also i have saved a few other kilos by removing downpipe cat have no back box (just a pipe). also bought some of them realy (expensive) small WRC mirrors. much lighter than oe electric ones.

ran the car 1/4 mile last month 13.3 @ 103 with a full tank of juice, spoiler on and all that **** in my boot

Yea that sucks. I found that too, most of the cabon bonnets in the uk are all fiberglass/ frp with a carbon skin. This makes them heaver than the alloy bonnet....The lightest carbon bonnets i found were around 4-5kg and cost 600 + mainly avalible in the u.s. Thats is still expensive considering you only save 3kg Best of taking out the rear seat belts its cheaper

Happy stripping, would be interested to know what you get it down to , will weigh my 97 RA and let you know.
I weighed my downpipe cat when it was removed - 10kg. HKS de-cat - 5kg.

i got my nova down to about 600 odd kilo's
removed just about all interior, including dash, soundproofing, all but drivers seat, headlining , sunroof replaced with sheet of ali, even took out the heater matrix.
made the car loads quicker, only downsides were it was bloody cold , noisy and made it quite twitchy but i loved every minute
