Off duty copper gets pulled doing 136Mph
Interesting article in the Motorcycle News this week. A bike rider was fined 10 times as much as an off-duty copper - after both were done for speeding at the same court.
Both men were caught doing over 135Mph and their cases were heard back to back at the same court by the same judge at Inverness Sheriff Court.
But the bike rider got banned twice as long as the copper and fined 10 times as much.
The difference apparently is that the copper was caught by a speed camera and the biker by a patrolman. The biker was fined £5000 and banned for 2 yrs after clocking 145Mph on the A96 in Inverness, riding his brothers Suzuki SV1000, but copper only got £500 fine and 1yrs ban for doing 136Mph in his Scooby.
The scooby was driving on a wet road and the biker on a dry 2 mile straight.
The biker was done for dangerous driving as the patrolman provided the evidence where as the scooby driver was done for just speeding as a speed camera cannot pick up dangerous driving!
Either way, you would be pretty p*ss*d off if you were the biker! Or was it just cos he was a copper that he got the lesser penalty?
Any views??

Dont the court take quite a few things into account? like what the guy does for a living, family circumstances and ability to pay. Really need a bit more info on the biker to judge fairly.

As said, the main issue is that by law a still image camera can only provide evidence of "speeding". The biker was prosecuted for "dangerous driving" which carries a higher penalty and evidence was provided by a Police Officer. If the driver of the Subaru had been caught by a Police Officer, he'd probably have been prosecuted for dangerous driving also.
This is like comparing apples to oranges.
