MAF Help
Does anyone have the part number for the replacment MAF for a MY97 UK Turbo Engine?
I bought one last week but it was for an MY98 and have since returned it, but when I enquired about one for the MY97 they quoted over £200. I tried to explain it's just the sensor I wanted and not the whole assembly but the dealer reckons you have to buy the whole thing?!?...

MAF= mass air flow. its a very sensitive sensor that seems to be a big problem judging by what i,ve read on this site
what sort of missfire...... sorted mine today (my00) it was hesitating between 3500rpm and 4500rpm, loss of power ,missing etc. brought a new maf sensor £77.00, fitted in 2 mins, runs sweet as now. check your ecu for error codes. very easy procedure explained many times on this site. takes all of 2 minutes...

is it the one in the air feed pipe just after the air box? it misses under hard accelaration, and when accelerating from a fairly low speed in comparison to gear? How do you check ecu then? plugging in to diagnostics?

to check ecu for error codes ... under das there are for connectors 2 green 2 black. plug the 2 black ones together and turn ignition to on position(don,t start engine) the check engine light will start flashing. long flash =10 short flash = 1.... maf fault is 23 so 2 long flashes 3 short ones hopefully thats your only problem good luck

o and yes, the maf is in the pipe just past airbox.

just had to but a maf myself although a good tested one from grade a. Been having a few probs with my idle (see my threads on here).Was quoted 231 quid + vat from dealers but second hand one was 80+vat,glad i did not pay for a new one as this has made no difference so I am only 100 quid down and not 300.

My car had missfires symptoms and stalling in high rpm and i tested with the select monitor in my local Subaru dealer. There was not any error godes.
Some times the MAF is working but it doesnt ''read'' the correct air amount, and after that the ECU react wrong.When i replace the MAF all the symptoms has gone.

Only totally failed MAFs will cause a CEL. But it's the failing MAFs that cause the problems... see here for more info...

Ive just had my MAF sensor fail on my 96MY, yes its £235 from Subaru this is the only place to get it, ive tried all over the net but to no avail, best advice is to find one from a breakers yard, trouble is no guarentees it will work, as they are v sensitive.
Mine failed after i took a HKS ram air filter off,if you look at this link - http://www.ecutek.com/tuning/induction/
it explains the dangers of fitting a ram air system incorrectly, as was the case with mine, the previous owner had fitted it, as well as a dump valve, which can also cause problems such as the con-rods to snap (according to subaru engineer) this link also details these dangers -http://www.iwoc.co.uk/modsairflow.html
Its a good idea to research the pros and cons when fitting upgrades to scoobies, as weve probaley both found out to the tune of £250!
