No idea on insurance increase. Phone them and ask for a quote.

I went with Tesco and my insurance went from £1200 to about £1600. Presuming your on about a MY03+ STI + PPP.

I would hazard a guess the boost pressure is indeed increased as a new fuel pump is part of the upgrade, more boost more fuel! I wouldn't of thought you would get a 40hp increase from a new cat and backbox

my insurance went from 1,200 to 1,600 as well, I'm 34, 6 points, garaged.

I could be talking b*llox then.

I have an MY03 STi and I thought that it already ran at 1.2bar so I don't think they run it higher or fuel cut will occur.

Yeah I thought part of the remap would be an increase in boost pressure.

It's for a MY04 WRX and I'm paying about £1000 for insurance - did Tesco know what PPP was?

I believed that part of the upgrade was the ECU mapping which would control such things and obviously up any limits as required. Hence the big problem with the PPP its not done for any given car its a generic map that works adequately on all STi's

It's possible.

Erm, the answer to that is easy enough - the boost cut threshold can be raised. Certainly was with the classic shape PPP's.

and to tesco its not a ppp its a remap - exhaust and samco hose
and they want to know the bhp increase of each item lol

and they wonder why people don't both to claim - Tesco are a bit steep on mods just ask my wallet

The WRX PPP doesn't add any more to the L & V premium, but other insurers may well penalise you for it.

In terms of extra boost, I am getting 18.2 psi (1.23 bar) on a WRX PPP, but don't know what the std WRX boost is.

My Ecutek'd MY03 STI is running 1.3 to 1.35bar max boost now.

Would have thought the PPP would be similar to get the same sort of power. (300bhp)

Butty,

a standard 03/04 WRX boosts at a sustained 0.95 bar which i think is 14PSI or thereabouts. However with the wonders of delta dash i found that mine peaked at 1.07 bar under hard acceleration before stabilising at 0.98. So it looks like there is about a 0.2-0.25 bar increase over standard, so its fairly significant!

Thanks Neil - The invite about the brakes still stands as discussed.
