Question

Is a MY03 wrx ppp viable as a 20,000 mile/year work car? Things such as road noise, driver comfort and reliability are potential concerns.

No question. 5th gear is relatively tall making for very comfortable and economical cruising @ 80mph. Lots of smiles per mile - particularly as the company is actually paying me to drive the scoob. Slight downside however - my 03 has bucket seats and being an old git I don't drive the car on too many 2hr plus journeys.

Covered twice that distance in a year, great car for general commute! I've started driving our Sport for the commute now to keep the miles down :-)

I cover the same in a wrx, as long as you stay below 80 fuel consumption is just about acceptable. Comfort and noise wise it is fine. Apart from the fuel the only thing that will cost you more than a boring car is the tires (and of course all the modifications that coming on here make you buy!)

Yes yes yes - especially for me as my last 10 miles are down B roads - I've forgotten all about the 1hr 15 on the M4 by the time I get home!!!

I do 15000 miles per year and wouldnt be without the ppp.My daily commute to work is 22 miles each way of sublime b roads, with very little traffic.Am i lucky or what?
Tyres were mentioned earlier, and this is the only downside. My last set lasted 10 months.

I do a 50 mile round trip into london every day in a 03 WRX PPP, no problems really, I avergage about 22mpg. The last 15 mins on the b-roads are great.

I do a 100 mile round trip each day (standard MY00 scooby), sits nicely at 80 mph in 5th. Bucket seats are comfortable and I try to use the A roads where I can to get the best smiles.

Although seeing the MY03 interior, yours will not be as rattly as mine!

03 WRX with PPP Now at 22K miles and counting. No probs whatsoever with the commute - other than constantly going the long way around.

I found you actually get slightly better MPG fter PPP, Possibly having one of the Cats removed or needing less right foot for the same effect.

The same or better (generally). Around town you'll most likely adjust your driving style to use the increase in torque on the low revs. On long journeys I can easily get 30MPG+.

I've had no problems with driver fatigue on long journeys, even driving to the south of France and stopping at service stations I'd be itching to get back to the car. Very comfortable on the smooth autoroutes, easy to settle into a 100mph cruise.

Typically I can get 250 - 280 miles from a tank in My00 standard scooby on NUL. That's mostly motorway driving, with a bit of 'A' road for fun, don't know how the range would be effected with PPP though?

I have only had my STi8 for 19 days but even at running in speeds I am only getting 21mpg , compared to yours that seems apalling
