Got a Firestorm "loud as ****" on at the moment. It sounds awsome but is too much for long journeys. I also think that is looks too big for the car.
The car has also been decatted which probably adds to the noise!
There's no way I'd want a standard STi pipe as I think they're too quiet and too small!
I'd like something polished which looks in proportion with car and is loud only on high revs.

Any ideas from you guys.

Heat wrap your exhaust (all the parts) and add some noise killing material (say Dynamat) under your rear seats and rear hood (under the carpet) it helps a lot!

there's plenty of noise-killing material already in the car. Its not just the noise, I think it looks too big so I'd be sorting 2 problems out if I got another one. What are the Haywood and Scott ones like?

Hayward and Scott are excellent. A modest 3.5" rolled-in polished stainless steel tail pipe, lovely bob-bob-bob-bob on tickover, and loud enough when belting it. Also won't p!ss your neighbours off if you go out early or come home late.

 

had a Haywood and Scott (Scoobysport) on my 98 and it was loud. It boomed at 4000 rpm too which annoyed the wife. I didn't mind cos I don't sit at 4000 rpm for long.

Got an STi5 now with the latest Scoobysport one on it. Its quite a bit quieter but still sounds great. Doesn't boom at all. Very nicely made!! I went for this one cos I want to do some track days. I got sent home from Goodwood with the Haywood and Scott one. This one should be ok.

Booms at 4000rpm? You sure it was a Hayward & Scott? Mine certainly doesn't boom, at all, in any gear, at any rpm. You must have had an unlucky one-off mate. Should have returned it, they'd have been more than happy to replace it for you.

 

Maybe you shold try a custom exhaust most custom fitters can make it to your likeing.I had a powerflow backbox made to accompany the rest of my system .I told them that i wanted a rally-like noise but a bit deeper,I must admit i sounds the dog b******s
