Been reading a few Scoob/CTR Threads of late and the general opinion seems to be that a Std UK 99/00 is not any quicker than the a CTR once on the move! And even when pushing 260bhp with a full de-cat & Tek2 are only slightly quicker????? I would have thought with that power it would be noticeably quicker??????

Only saying this because I need to justify the extra insurance in my head LOL

Thoughts?

If you can afford it go for!! I had a clio172 mk1 before the scoob STI8, It feels loads quicker and it`s only standard at that bar a backbox.

Although my mate had a bugeye WRX and my clio could stick with him from 20-100mph. As far I know the bugeye WRX is the slowest of the lot, but mod wise it`s endless. The grin on my face is 10x compared to the clio.

The scoob verus ctr thread has been done to death. The only advice you need to take is TRY BEFORE YOU BUY!!!

That's right guys, this old chestnut does seem to be cropping up a lot recently!!

CTRs are good cars period. So are scoobies period.

In standard forms from rolling starts, there is probably not a lot between them.

With a Tek2 or similar against a standard CTR you will win strongly. I would also expect more than 260bhp by the way with a full de-cat and Tek2. My bugeye hit 282bhp/280lbft with this setup. Was casually driving to a meeting a couple of weeks ago, noticed a red CTR behind me piloted by a 'lax powder brigade' numpty, one hand outstretched on the wheel - you know the sort. He decided to stick his front bumper to the back of my car. I didn't want to race but the red mist came down, we went around a roundabout back onto dual carriageway, I held it in 3rd at 4K until the astra in front moved in then planted the pedal. RESULT: numb nuts got left in my wake I kept pulling away strong and fast up to 100 several hundred feet between us by then and pulled in. The moral of this story is simple: CTRs, scoobies, evos whatever, are all capable cars and are all open to being modified to God knows what levels, if you are in a standard scoob it will be a fair competition on the go and on the straight. If you have a Tek2 etc. etc. and go against a standard CTR you will win easily.

By the way, take care of your fuelling and get someone good to do a Tek3 and you're laughing even more. Just had mine done and the differences are obvious!

All the best and Merry Christmas

If you have driven a 1999 UK Scoob and you cant feel the difference then its not for you and I would give it a miss and stick with your CTR. I drove one and didnt need to justify the purchase.

I'm sorry but I have driven both, and they both feel quick, in different ways, in the real world of acccelerate, brake turn, lights the scoob is in a different league!!! full stop.

I drive an 03 WRX PPP, I pulled up behind a CTR with a big exhaust on the motorway so not sure wether it was standard or not, but when the car in front of him moved out of the way we accelerated from 80-120 and I was toying with him by backing off then accelerating up his **** until he moved over, once past I left him for dead.

The moral of this story is that it does not matter how fast a car 'feels'......the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

for me it's all about 4WD V's 2WD. in this country the 4WD option gives massive benfits for about 5 months of the year...... the rest of the time it makes no difference.

If two standard models of car can't easily be separated performance-wise, then the only criterion for choosing one over the other must be personal preference based on anything from steering wheel size to carpet colour. I know that under any circumstances I'd rather be in my scoob than in a CTR.
