Unhappy

Engine cut out yesterday, would not even turn over.

Dealer thought it's cam belt, but having examined it today they told me it's crank shaft problem (or something like that). What does it mean? anyone had similar problem?

Now they quoted me (provisionally, depending on the damage done) £1800 if they will be able to rebuild old engine or £3500 if I'll need a new one!!! Car is MY98 UK.

I have cried already so what now? and what are the more realistic prices to sort this one out?

any advise would be welcomed
cheers all

Yes...... not that i have had experiance with a major problem but have to agree, try a non dealer garage and Scoobyclinic seems to have a good name on here.
Trouble with the dealers are they always seem to put a little on for themselves and use brand new parts, maybe more chance of Scoobyclinic having something around second hand to keep the costs down on your side.

Simon ......... Good Luck Matey

Could be like what happened to mine, said it was the engine and maybe crank, but on taking the bar steward apart myself with a mechanic mate of mine MY97, we found that the clutch had disintegrated and jammed the flywheel solid so that the engine wouldn't turn over, new clutch and s/h flywheel = £900 inc fitting and she runs sweet again now.
