Whats the best way to....

Increase the performance of a Std '99'plate 2000 AWD. Prefrebly it must also be as insurance friendly as possible too
Ive read that a simple Tek 2 & decat is the way forward. I want too see 250bhp+ with a nice lump of torque to match
Are the std brakes really that bad? Would it be worth uprating them too?

all i did with the brakes was add a set of 40 groove disks and they feel right now as far as mods tek2 and the exhaust mods are your best bet as you only need disclose the exhaust to your insurance company as the tek2 cannot be detected

Prodrive Performance Pack.

Remapped ecu
Stainless back box
Prodrive turbo hosing
boost raise to 1.1bar

gives approx 245bhp.

As far as im aware anyway!.

With regards to the brakes, although they do the job with the mods and the fact that you may be pushing a little harder you may want to consider the option. I went to Pagid N+ disks and pads. The difference was noticeable, things fly off the seats when applying heavy braking and you do scrub off speed quickly

And hope that in a serious RTA that the police don't check the ecu!! Which if serious injury or a fatal has occured they would!

I'd imagine a lot would depend on the circumstances. If your insurance company was refusing to pay out on a claim because they'd examined your ECU and found modifications that you hadn't told them about, I doubt "I never knew it was there" would help you at all. That could lead to them claiming your policy was invalid, and that in turn could concievably lead to the Police prosecuting you for driving without insurance.

If you had an accident, and the Police were prosecuting you anyway, I doubt they'd prosecute you for having an undisclosed modified ECU, simply because they'd probably be far too busy screwing you for causing death by dangerous driving (or whatever) than finding out whether the previous owner of the car told you about the TeK or not...

However, if they found out in the course of their investigations an ECU modification you hadn't told your insurance about, that could in turn lead to your insurers either refusing to pay the claim, or suing you to recover the costs of the payout, so either way you could end up in deep financial sh*t.

Whichever way you slice it, the comment above about not having to disclose TeKs to your insurance company because they're "undetectable" is abject bollocks. They are sold on the basis that they boost power, they are detectable, and you are legally obligated to tell your insurer about them.
