Can anyone give me any part numbers of sensors they've used sucessfully? Max rating would need to be 1000/1050 Deg C or so I guess.

I'll be driving and measuring it using some custom jiggery-pokery similar to the ScoobyMonitor.

bayonet ones with 1.5 or 3mm sheath in stainless, about 300mm long is plenty and gets the wire away from the heat.

www.thermodata.co.uk

They supplied me with custom made 310 s/s encapsulated Type-Ks complete with s/s compression fittings, 2m glass braided cables with miniature plugs for about £14 each, they are custom made so can take a couple of weeks but the service is excellent.

Their part numbering system is quite daunting, but I can provide the part numbers I used for EGT and Inlet T/Cs if you need them.

Speak to Mike Bonnell, mike@thermodata.co.uk.

No connection just a happy customer.

go on the site, make up your own part number from the pdf sheets.

You want a 310 stainless sheath, about 300mm long, with 2m of glass fibre insulation.

Depending on how you are going to mount you probably want a 1/8npt compression fitting in stainless.

If you get a 1.5mm diameter probe, you can drill a 1.5mm hole through some thick part of the std headers and secure with exhaust gum (as per Andy F). Or fit with compression fitting welded to up-pipe, or fit compression fitting to lambda boss in headers with an adaptor, which is the same as the adaptor used for the oil pressure switch on the block.

Get with a male mini-plug and it will fit most hand held indicators.

The Thermodata part number for that would be:

TC MI FLK JG D15 SL0300 SM310 PP1 LL2000 LIL4 TT3 FF2

This is for a grounded junction Type K with a 1/8bsp compression fitting in s/s.

Personally I bought a 75mm one as the uppipe is only 50mm diameter. My uppipe already had a 12x1.25mm boss on it, so I cut down a bolt and drilled and tapped it to take the compression fitting.

300mm would be more suitable if you're fitting in headers, means cable doesn't run past exhaust.

although a short stubby one with stainless overbraid cable would be okay IMHO, potted area might need a little glass sleeve.

not everyone can just drill and tap stuff, which is a drag.

getting hold of NPT fittings and taps is also a PITA in England - best stick to BSP where you can.

I have a reasonable selection of Father-in-law's taps & dies
I should really return them to him...
