STRANGE LOSS OF ACCELERATION...
Hi,
I know there have been various posts on this subject but after searching I seemed to get conflicting results.
Today, on my regular motorway journey back from work I, as always, opened up my 95 WRX wagon a bit and overtook in fifth a diesal passat that was spraying me with his fuel.....and it just didn't feel right at all - there was not real urge and it seemed like ages to get to a certain speed :-).
I did some acceleration tests from 60mph up and still it didn't have the normal urge (or was I now imagining it?)
The car has a magnex backbox, blitz air induction and was recently serviced (interim)at a Lex garage in Warwick (manager has a type R and knows alot about scoobies so I feel safe!) It has been going very well however I felt the air induction did some strange things up the revs.
The car has done about 38k but I don't know the jap history of whether it has had its plugs changed etc etc but I would appreciate your advice on whether:
1 - I should go to say a more scooby specialist place like Power Engineering, Scoobysport or Autosportif or anyway else people can recommend in the Rubgy to MiltonKeynes district? and have a thorough check up, service with sparks etc. I know this would cost quite a lot though.
2 - Silly point - but can fuel have any difference - I have recently changed from Elf to SAVE normal unleaded petrol.
Any advice greatfully received,
cheers

Marcos,
You are using normal unleaded in a WRX. Not a good idea at all. The car was designed for 100RON unleaded. Running it on 95 will cause detonation, which the ECU will register and retard the timing to compensate for, but it's closer to the limit and not making good power. If you want a nice big grin, wait until your tank is almost empty. Now fuel up with either Esso or BP Super / SuperPlus unleaded, then remove power from the ECU (pull out the fuse in the fusebox) for a few minutes, put back and enjoy :-)
Cheers,
Pat.

Marcos,
Hmm! I had similar problems recently (MY94 WRX import). Firstly try a DIY job of removing the plugs (long job!) and checking the gaps (0.6, try changing to 0.7). This would cost at LEAST £40 for the check at a garage. Definitely stick with 97 RON fuel, and only use 95 RON in AN EMERGENCY! You will notice the difference
If you need help on resetting the ECU, gomme an email and maybe I could meet you in MK (I live there) and I can do it for you. You will then need to find a nice steep hill, cram loadsa weight in the back and plough up it. This will give you a load more power.
I would also recommend checking your hoses.
Are you going to Donno? Whilst J is looking at my WRX, I could cast my meagre eye over yours and check everything I've had problems with. I don't think you have anything wrong with your motor, it just needs a little TLC that is beyond a service
