knocklink - installation options
attention anyone who has knocklink fitted...
can someone indicate where this is fitted inside the car (MY99/00 interior) and how the cable routing was done etc. I want to achieve an easily visible installation but without destroying the interior or siting any 'ugly boxes' on the dash etc.
cheers,
Paul Webber

You will be struggling to be honest Paul.
I removed the PCB complete from the box and drilled the LED's through the flat part of the instrument binnacle.
Epoxy resin bonded mounting posts underneath, did the same with my Lambda link, I just have the LED's mounted on the dash, that's all that can be seen, didn't have to alter the wiring loom at all, everything reached to where it should.
I have taken a couple of photos (not digital) so will have to get them developed, may get ChrisP to take a Digi photo next Tuesday?
If so, I will put up on our website,

sounds like a better idea than the pics I have seen so far.... these items appear to come in nasty black plastic boxes that aren't easy to accommodate in the dash at all... I definitely won't be putting them in without some heavy alterations!! - removing the internals from the box and poking the leds through the instrument panel sounds a much better idea - or maybe doing the same thing behind an empty/existing gauge pod. I will check out the face plates on the 4 extra gauges I have fitted - as these may be the simplest way in the end - don't like the sound of fiddling around with the instrument cluster - those things are expensive to replace!!
thanks again,

* NOTE *
Just remember that you need to mount it in easy line of sight for the driver if you want to be able to see it when you really need to know about knocking (high load conditions and foot flat to the floor come to mind)! As with boost gauges, it is not very useful if the driver has to look away from the windscreen to see it as he/she is really needing to look as far ahead of the car as possible!

Absolutely essential, (Moray) mine are on the flat part of the inner instrument binnacle, below the Speedo.
They are within peripheral vision, any unexpected 'bright events' are instantly spotted without undue distraction.

Mike,
I had thought it should have an audible warning triggering on the brightest LED, hadn't considered the door open buzzer (good idea
), but I reckon that you need something loud enough to get your attention when the engine, drivetrain and wind noise is at full volume, so how about a fog horn?
I thought you may be able to use the ICE in some way, but that needs it to be on, which it ain't, when you drive hard/overload the engine.

Moray,
How about a vibrator in the seat cushion, triggered by the last LED? That would take your mind off ******** the engine! And no noise! And your passengers would never know, just wonder why the big daft grin on your face.
No, I haven't tried it.
