Question

When pulling hard in second with wide open throttle (having avoided the sometimes erratic boost which is the subject of another thread on this board) I get a noticeable rasping noise when the revs are somewhere around 5K but the power doesn't tail off. My natural reaction is to back off and the noise dissapears immediately.
Boost under this situation is stable at 12psi.
Has anybody else come across this or have any ideas ?

Thanks

Guido

had this on my last car - turned out to be the heat shield rubbing against metal clutch pipe by the bulkhead - can you feel vibration through the clutch pedal at the same time ??? - easy to fix if this is the problem - by just bending the pipe out of the way a bit.

cheers,

Paul Webber

Thanks for the advice Paul - had a look and can't initially find anything rubbing where you suggested. Also on reflection the noise is more of a combination of a rasp and squeal. It really is load dependant - on 3/4 throttle it won't do it and I can only provoke it in second.
I'll keep on looking
