I have noticed that in several discussions many wrx owners comment on there fuel consumtions and most state around 24 - 28 MPG.
I have a standard 2002 WRX and no matter how i drive it, it always returns a fuel consumtion of 18(hard driving) to 22(steady away) MPG.
Is this just me, my driving, dodgy engine setup or do other people suffer the same figures.
Comments would be appreciated as i am beginning to wonder if there is something wrong with the car.

20-25 mpg consistently. Struggle to get below 20 on a tankful, but maybe if you fill up more frequently that would be possible. Never seen more than 27

Yours sounds a bit thirstier but probably withing manufacturer's tolerances (wide).

Owner of WRX 03 been monitoring since i bought in Sept, get between 24 to 29mpg dependent on driving style. Always run on optimax. Although big drop from previous car Golt TDI150 average 52mpg, but i didnt buy the car for economy i bought it for the constant griiiiiiiinnnnn factor. Enjoy!

The 03's do tend to be more economical for some reason.

I used to average around 18mpg when I had my Series McRae.
Once on a very gentle run to the cost I managed 25mpg.

03's have AVCS, and a wider torque band to boot too.

Brassy, you will get an extra 30 miles or so from a full tank of Super Unleaded compared to Unleaded, or so I have found in my 00 classic, can get about 28 to the gallon on a very easy tank, 22mpg when driven like Sollberg.

Decided to test my MY02 (standard except WR Sport BB).
At beginning of week I filled brim full with optimax, did 164.4 miles over the week topped back to brim and had used 23.77L (5.22 Gal) guage was still way over half full. My maths is rusty but that seems to be average of 31.5 to gallon !!. Was mixed driving with plenty of cane at times.

Interesting I did roughly the same test when the car was brand new with almost no miles and it did around 24 to gallon also on optimax.

Maybe just a blip I dont know, if it continues that high, ill have to get a TEK3 or something to bring it down abit - LOL.

Even with this low consumption the car feels fine, much better infact than when it was new.

I consistently got 23mpg out of my old MY98 Uk turbo. I get 17-20 in the RA. I guess becuase the RA seems to be doing 5K immediately on touching the throttle

Mainly down to how and where you drive it. My WRX02 - with a few mods - averaged about 28mpg over 5000 miles when it was mainly long journeys, motorways at "average" UK speeds, struggled to get 20mpg with same set-up when I was doing lots of short journeys to work with many roundabouts (accelerate, brake, repeat)

I have 03 WRX PPP. I get upto 29.5mpg on a tankfull when mainly steady motorway driving however get between 23 to 26 mpg normally (20mpg average when driving harder).
The cars only done 3k and I'm told it should get a bit more economical with a few more miles?

Not quite sure where Subaru get the 32 mpg combined driving figure??

MY02 WRX - Normal driving around town and some "spirited" bursts I get around 25 - 27 mpg using EITHER Supermax or NUL.. Best I have had was on a long motorway run up to NE Scotland - 34 mpg!! Steady 75 - 80 mph all the way with little hold ups, beat that

Just completed a brim to brim fuel consumption test on my o3 wrx,
20mpg is the result about 200mile on the tank full.

This with me and my missus driving around town and commuting also.

The figure was much what i expected ,but hey who gives a **** about fuel economy,i bought the motor cos it looks the bollox and goes like stink!

WRX Sti3. Fun = 20ish, 50/50 M-way/lanes 24 (not too mad + rush hours) , long m-way run 27.5. Optimax always.
