Hi folks

In my last MY98 I used Mobil 1 (0-40W) at each service up until 22,500 miles, where I was told that this was not recommended and was forced to using the dealers synthetic oil which I think was Shell Ultra.

On the basis I tend to drive the car quite hard, do a lot of motorway miles, and attend track days I want to use the best possible oil. I now have a Prodrive MY99 and at the first 1,000 mile service the dealer used their own synthetic oil Shell Ultra. The 7,500 mile service looms and I wondered whether anybody has any suggestions as to the best product to use?

Power Engineering recommend Mobil One Motorsport Oil 15W-50. The standart 10W-40 Mobil One is to thin for the scooby engine.

Standard Mobil 1 is 0W-40 which is much too thin. The Shell Ultra is the oil recommended by Subaru for the car, its not the dealers own oil. Mobil motorsport is the right grade of oil for the car at 10W-50 (I think) and the Silkolene oil mentioned previously sounds good too.

Thanks for the recommendations.

I think I will go for the Mobil 1 10W-40 or 15W-50, so I am just checking whether the local dealer uses this. If not do you know where you can buy this particular grade, as it seems most shops sell the 0W-40? I am SW of London

Do many people bother using synthetic oils in the transmission, and if so do you think there is any real benefit. Certainly the transmission seems to get some real stick on track days where the power is constantly tossed between wheels and axles. What do they use in competition for example?
