May be a stupid question...but...
I have just got a new sti8

which I have had for a week, it was sat at the dealers for around 6 weeks (due to problems with my insurance). I have done about 450 miles so far so haven't had my 1000 mile service yet
but I have found that I need to gun the accelerator to start the car otherwise it just turns over (not literally
), Is this normal or does anyone know if I may have a problem.
Again sorry if this is a stupid question.

Wet one,
Welcome to the board.
You should'nt have to "gun the accelerator", as you put it, to fire the car. The ecu should fire the car up on its own as you turn the key, without any other kind of imanual ntervention.
My advice is to take it back to the garage & get them to run some tests on the car to make sure its all honky-dory.
Don't take no, or being palmed off, as an answer!
Cheers

I thought scooby accelorator pedal was not to be pressed under any circumstances when starting up... i have a MY98 sti import and thats what i was told.It maybe different for Sti8 though..
However ther's been numourous threads about battery failure on the new cars so it could be your battery not upto power..

Agree, don't use the accelerator at all. Turn the key, listen for the petrol pump to whur (03 WRX) and on the next turn of the key it should fire up straight away. If not, go back to the dealer asap as something is amiss.
There is an 'issue' with some sti8's starting. My brother has one. His is a real pain to start, where as mine just fires on the first turn. Even with the standard ecu mine fired instantly unlike his. All very strange.
