Hi,
Having reached the time of life when i require a estate,i was wondering if anyone could lend some advice on what model to go for?
I was thinking either a wrx estate,maybe sti?Forester tb/s?legacy gt-b,dare i say mitsubishi airtrek,legnum vr4.Which of these has luxury,pace,handling and equipment .My previous car had 283bhp so i don't want to go down to snail pace.any advice appreciated,regards Rollers

The beauty of the wagon WRX, is that you'll be asked by "wrinklies" what sort of car it is? It's also slightly less in your face and not a lot of people realise what you're driving, until you kiss them bye bye!!
Great for getting stuff to the tip!!

Hi,not really fussed about stealth,just pace,quality ,equipment,resonable mpg and fairly big boot.i mean does a forester tb/s really compare with a wrx sti or legacy gtb??

 

by the way,gtb seem to depreciate big style,a new shape sti wagon is rare than hens teeth,anyone know the specs on the jap wrx wagon and sti wagon??rollers

All the things your after, the legacy fits.
Reason for depriciation, is probably that they're all JDM and that the general public has no idea.

No - Dont do it - Go for an Impreza WRX wagon - much better than a legacy...

Pace - yep
Handling - yep
Luxury - yep (its all comparative!!!)
Big boot - yep
Fuel - Averaging 30mpg

Both got good points, legacy is a fair bit bigger but the newer ones are meant to have very well set up chassis.

The wagon I think looks pretty stealth too V tasteful with the right mods, prob a case of driving both and deciding - legacy has low MPG when compared tho as its twin turbo (Depending which you go for)

GTBs have 280bhp as std, so will the new single turbo.
Though as of yet, the single gonna be a no show in the UK (import only).

Site of interest 'legacyb4' on yahoo groups, nothing but TTs

Fuel consumption, average 25, cruising 30, continued use of the second turbo... don't ask

Had a look at both the Impreza and Forrester, settled on the Legacy.
Personally I found the Legacy to have the better all round package/build quality.

They're all JDM, so full of toys.

I was trauling through the web the other day and came across a brand new Sti 6 wagon in yellow(if your after stealth this is not the car) it had no miles on the clock and the only miles it would have was delivery miles. ill try and find it for you

probably depends on real boot space needs - Legacy significantly bigger than WRX Wagon.

However - with seats down I have managed to get 3 kids bikes, my mtb, travel cot and complete kitesurfing eqpt/wetsuit etc into back of my WRX Wagon - and still able to enjoy a spirited drive down to the coast.

Surely a Legacy can't handle as well as a WRX Wagon - even with stacks of bhp?

The WRX PPP is a great route to flexible motoring - INMHO!

Fit me, the missus, the dog, massive tent and all our camping stuff (and we have loads) for a week down the coast (as seen in pic) - all snugly under the boot cover too
Also had great fun getting there - it's no slouch. I don't think there is anything between the 4door and a wagon, and from experience the wagon handles better

I use a MY01 WRX wagon as an emergency response vehicle for ambulance service, even without PPP 225 bhp ish, quicker than most things on road. Handles well on emergency runs ( ie well above normal speed limits). Boot is much smaller than a legacy, but I can still fit in all the equipment carried by a regular ambulance except for the stretcher. Have a colleague in Welshpool uses a Legacy for same type of work, and he has some concerns about the handling when pushing the car.

Luckily I was heading down to coast after wife had taken kids, dog etc I was just carrying the toys.

Best way of avoiding that discussion about Bob the Builder CD not working in Daddy's car!

Is your colleague using a GTB ?

Handling not a concern, it's bigger, so not as nimble as the Impreza, same understeer characteristics though.
More of a A road hacker, than a B.

I've had both a 1.9 Gti and a turbo wagon - the latter wins on all counts, sorry

 

I bought a MY01 WRX wagon and it's the best allround car I've ever owned. Having got addicted to mods and with hindsight I would have waited/searched for a MY01 STi wagon (import).

thanks for all the replies,i would really like to get a wrx sti 7 wagon(didn't come with brembos or a front suretrak lsd-problem???),but there as rare as hens teeth,i actually quite like the new shape wrx!!!i'm forgeting the idea of the legacy,purely because of depreciation,sorry!!Does anyone know if the forester tb/s is the exact engine as the wrx but with different engine management??Or are there some mechanical differences.Could anyone tell me the differences between the sti 5,6,7 wagons?Whats the best to go for??regards Rollers

 

I searched for a STi7 wagon for 3 months, but only found a semi-automatic in Japan! I am now trying to get a Uk spec WRX MY01 wagon as close as possible in performance to an STi7. So far doing better on bhp, suspension & brakes. Limiting factors however include no 6 speed gearbox, no variable valve timing and it's not an STi!!! If you can bothered to do all the mods (or can find an STi7 in the breakers)I can forward the details.

No, he drives a standard 2.5 (except for flashing lights and a siren). Welshpool is also pretty rural, and I think the bulk of his work is on b-roads. I work in Birmingham and surrounding area, so probably not a strictly fair comparison.
There are about a dozen of us doing this sort of work in west mids, and we seem to be split evenly between imprezas, and volvo S60s.

had a Pug 205 1.9 Gti a while back - loved it, but don't think it's as usable as the WRX (OK - so I've got PPP which is a bit of an unfair comparisson). It was great fun with 130bhp and build/weight of a baked bean can, and drove it all over Europe.

But prefer the Scoob Wagon
