Is there a method on Windows 2000/2003 server to have folders replicated between servers.

Basically we have two sites with client data shared on both. We want to have these two shares replicated between our sites.

so how does that appear to the user?

if one site has \\primary\clients and the other corresponding folder is \\data\clients, what would the user see?

We want to keep access local. So users in the office with the local \\primary\clients shared, would want to access that and not be directed to open files from the \\data\clients share.

Does that make sense? Is it possible to govern which server/folder is accessed by each local user?

The reason is both servers are seperate by a 1Mb VPN and this is a solution to avoid slow responses from opening documents.

Map a drive to \\primary\clients (or its published replica name) for those on that site and place it in a logon/script

map g: \\primary\clients whatever

& VV for the other site?

Are these files "live"? Or read only? 'cos Dfs replicates spasmodically and if users in both sites are accessing the same file, some changes might be lost. Better as read only storage or 1 site works on a file and the other has Ro rights.

Thanks Puff.

No the client data is particular to each site, so there's very little chance of two people modifying the same document.

My experience with DFS before was mapping the drive letter to a single sharename. Everyone used that and you couldn't tell what server is was actually accessing.

Its Dfs for copyright reasons

I was suggesting a mix?

Local map to local share for their files & then map to Dfs published for other site's stuff...

& VV

Unhappy

Sorry m8, I've had a hectic day and it didn't help that I forgot my digi cam and measuring tape this morning.

I'll count the U's and let you know before I leave the office. I promise I'll get the pics tomorrow.

Right, it's a 12U rack. One of the small jobs you'd mount on the wall.
