I got 29 mpg sitting at a steady 80-85 mph over about 450 miles UK Motorway - STI7, Ecutek remap, full decat Magnex system. Car was fully loaded 3 Adults, one baby, plus all luggage for a weeks holiday.
I was impressed. Then when the car was empty and light, I went out alone and got about 19mpg, oh but it was fun after listening to mugger in law for 12 hours.

I just got 8.0 litres/100km (35.4mpg) driving on the motorway to Lake Garda in Italy over the Brenner pass (Average air temp about 20 degrees)

Came back via the Reschen pass and managed a whopping 25.1 litres/100km (13mpg) (average air temp about 3 degrees + snow!)

Always run on 100 octane V-power, but had to drop to the 99 stuff in Italy which may account for some of the increase! The rest I put down to steep windey mountain roads

My average consumption is about 12-13 litres/100km (about 22mpg) usually driving quite hard on reasonably quiet country roads.

Fuel consumption in Evo is normally higher than a scooby given the same driving conditions - don't forget that fuel consumption will increase as temperature drops! Evo also only has 40 litre tank (50 on Evo-8) so you don't have to stop as often even if the consumption is higher! Scooby also looks much nicer!

I have just driven my six-weeks old Scooby from Paris to Metz - a stretch of 300 kilometres/186 miles which ate a full tank exactly.\
I probably drove it on average speed 160 km/100 miles ocassionally going to 180-200 km (120 miles) per hour.

I am concerned as this is equivalent to 20 litres/100 km, or 4.5 gallons/62 miles.

Is this the normal fuel consumption figures for this car. Our Evo 7 does better than that on the same stretch.

I am concerned as the oscillation is back and I fear lest there is something wrong with the injection. As usual my dealer downplays it. He has gone 5000 kilometers.

At an average speed in excess of 100, that's not bad IMO. My WRX PPP does around 18MPG, driving it hard.

If you're worried about the fuel consumption, either slow down or buy a diesel.

Who the hell buys a scooby and worries about fuel consumption. Enjoy it, if it bothers you that much get an oil burner ;-)

I am not worried about the money but feared this was the symptom of another problem. With your figures I can rest assured that I should have invested another 10k in an Evo...since it is cheaper to run.
We are going to Austria today in a Phaeton :-(which costs exactly the same as a Scooby in petrol.The curves are going to be very uncomfortable.

that seems pretty poo. In my RA i got 170 miles to a tank doing a constant 140MPH in Germany. Thats with it running much higher revs than you. I normally get around 240 miles to 50 litres running at a steady 100MPH, thats sat at 5000rpm. Cruising at 85MPH i get over 260 miles/50 litres.

Maybe its all that extra weight the new car has to drag allong and the higher transmition losses of the VC type centre diff setup?

Mine eats fuel cross country or on track though, but you would expect that. I get way more to the gallon than Arron in the twisteis though.

 

Just because it does a couple of miles to the gallon than an Evo doesn't mean it costs more to run. Do you not bother to service your Evo every 7000 Km, twice as often as the Subaru and take into account faster tyre wear etc, etc?

I suggest you work the figures out before talking rubbish on SN.

I will relay your comments to my Evo-owning other half. It is he who rubbishes my purchase of the STi but thanks to Scooby net I can always ask for another opinion (although he tells me he cannot learn anything from it)

 

The mpg in my WRX is getting better the more i drive it
It must be loosening up ? it's only done 2000 miles.

I get between 200-230 miles out of my SpecC, and that's only got a 50 litre tank. Mostly thanks to a fair bit of motorway miles for work, but I do get my foot down lots (so surprised there, better than the Evo's I've had).

 

Try it with diesel in it..........

 

Melina, your consumption is absolutely normal. I've done Geneva to Provence quite a few times in my STi7 and it takes a tank to get there (about 330kms) at an average speed of 160kmh.

Look on the bright side - your Sti is actually much cheaper to run than the UK posse due to the lower fuel prices we get.

Keep the pedal to the metal, listen to the howl of the flat four and think of all the money you are saving

Whereabouts are you? Fancy joining a bunch of us heading for the Rallye Internationale du Valais in Switzerland at the end of this month (details here on the French webclub-subaru site). The Evo is welcome as well but the convoy will be primarily scoobs.

 

My one was quite bad during the run in period I thought.

But its getting better with more miles under its belt.

Current tank has done 240miles, and the needle is sitting half way in the last quarter of the gauge.
That means it has about 15 litres left I reckon....so can do
another 20-30 miles I reckon!

As you get to drive your STi on proper high speed roads a question,

Does your bonnet lift/bend at high speed ?

Just to clarify - I am not worried about the fuel consumption. I am worried about the oscillation which only happens at high speeds 160 km +, which is probably why no one has been able to tell me if this is normal, and mostly when driven up hill. I feared the fuel consumption was related.

By the way, just been to Germany and Austria over the weekend and my Scooby runs much better on Shells V Power 100 Octan. It needs to drink around half and then the fuel kicks in. Great!
