I was sitting watching TV a while ago, when I heard a throaty boxer driving away. I went out side (to see if it was mine!) and my wife , who was in the garden with the dog said that a couple of guys had stopped alongside it, and had a real good stare at it before slowly driving away.

Now I'm paraniod!

I'd like to think they were just admiring it, but my guts tells me different.

Because Scoobys have dropped in value so much recently, they are within reach of all sorts of undesirables, which is a worry.

Anyone know how good the Sigma CAT 1's are?

Wish I had a tilt motion sensor now!

The standard Sigma CAT1's are crap. Get some more security on ya scooby mate. You can never have enough security mate!

I had my Sigma ripped out the same day I picked my baby from the dealer, and returned it in a tesco's bag at its 1st 1000 mile service.

But surely if the Sigma has Thatcham categorisation, it must at lease meet the minimum standards of CAT1 approval?

I appreciate that it is probably an entry level system, but as long as it has 2-3 point immobilisation, doors, bonnet and boot sensors and interior motion sensors it fulfils the criteria.

What is it that you don't like about it?

got a clifford on my scooby

it has all the toys, expensive but worth it.

 

I have a Clifford but after two new systems under warranty and a number of other problems, I would not have one again. Personally I would look at a Meta system.

 

My brother had his spoiler ripped off his subaru in sheffield.

They might be admiring or looking for parts.

Have you got a different spoiler to theirs?

 

Cliffords are excellent alarms, its the installers that you need to watch out for.
You could just go for the anti hijack part which will cost you around 200 quid fitted, this is very good

Just feel that a standard alarm can only do so much. Must say that extra security is a must on a Scooby, be it Blackjack, Tracker, barrier Dead lock etc....

When spending approx £20K on a car (well I did) just think that you need to then spend at least additional £500 on some more security. At the end of the day, its the things we do just to get a good night sleep.

 

Ah right, you mean additional security as opposed to different security.

I think with a standard CAT1, thatcham 3 steering lock, and locking wheel nuts, I have done just about all I am going to do to keep the car.

At the end of the day, whether your car is trackered, alarmed, immobilised or whatever, if someone really wants it, they'll have it!

 

Just a little idea I saw on here once ....if you've got an alarm on the house , get an additional wireless sensor for it and stick it in the car ...makes one hell of a noise if they bust into the Scooby .

Snap off boss - it will stop the ******* driving it away. Alternatively build a garage and park another car behind it and take the wheels off the second car (bit of a bitch if you use your scooby regularly though!). Keep my ZX-7R in a steel box!

 

Gun club or pit bull owners/breeders stickers - put these in the car, it might frighten a few opportunists away!

Yeah I know, if they want it that bad then...its game over.

But, have a chat to a local installer who has ripped out the old sigma (I was there when my car was done)....lets just say it was interesting........

Clifford by a good fitter is the way to go. :-)

They aint if they are fitted properly...

The ECU for the alarm should be covered by a metal plate with specific locking screws on them!

 

The Thatcham CAT 1 certification means that every wire in the system (and there are a few) is black. The wires are tagged prior to installation so that the fitter can do his job, and once connected, the wire tags are all snipped. A thief would have to test practically every wire to find which circuits are immobilised!

It would take a long time to find all the immobilisation points (fuel pump/ignition switch/starter motor or whatever they may be).

I have a snap-off adapter, byt haven't fitted it yet, due to no manufacturer making bosses for the MOMO equipped cars. Niotsport have a boss but they are £150!!!!!

Even with no steering wheel, a professional theif who is stealing to order will just tow the ****** away, or lift it onto the back of a flat-bed!
