Am I likely to notice a 1 degree difference in my steering ratios?

WRX is 16:1 (3 turns) and I am about to fit and sti rack which is 15:1 (about 2.5 turns).

The prodrive rack fitted to grp n cars and the RA spec cars is 13:1 for reference.

Bearing in mind my car is set fairly stiff and I use it on track is it worth fitting the Sti rack? It was an absolute bargain BTW so price doesn't matter.

I fitted a 2.3 ratio rack a month ago, and it's absolutely brilliant. One of the best upgrades to the car I've done in fact.

I couldn't fit the STi one as my car is LHD, but I found an address in Canada.

Make sure they use a new Subaru sealing kit as otherwise powersteering oil will squirt just about everywhere

If the price is not a problem, I would expect it to be worth doing. I know it doesn't look much but I bet you notice the difference,especially on the track. I would do it if I had the chance anyway.

I appear to be slowly leaking PS fluid, so a new steering rack for my legacy may be on the cards.

How easy is this to do?
And more importantly, how much should I look to pay for an STi rack?

Steve, its about an hour to two hours of labour. Not a huge job. There is a guy on here who was selling the sti8 racks for £250 brand new. I would expect this to fit although I would check with a clued up engineer like tsl or powerstation first.

I've been offered a 'proper' quick rack (ie 13:1, 2.2 turns) but am just waiting for a price, so if that turns out ok, you can have my sti rack from this guy for the £250.

I think he does custom orders as well.

Steve, maybe you only need an new seal kit ? Racks don't really "age", sealing and maybe tie-rods do.

IIRC a new "STi RA" QR sells for 1.3 K UKP or thereabouts, not really cheap Only worth it if you really want the "direct input" feeling IMHO.

Well, getting rid of the leak is my PRIMARY objective, and if it's £1300 for a new rack it is probably just worth changing the seals (or living with it)

But if I can get one for £250 then I'm more than willing to try that!!

The idea of a better driving experience really appeals. The Legacy is an awesome stealth car, with a really good ride compromise. It's just little things: steering rack, gearshift, clutch pedal weighing 8 tonnes that cause the problems!
