Question

What signal does the Type 'r' centre diff require to lock/unlock it ?

Is it 12v applied to the electromagnet via a variable resistor ? (thumbwheel ? )
If disconnected from the electrical supply can I assume it is in the 'open' position ?

It has it's own ECU, I believe the thumbwheel is just an input into this, along with hand brake and throttle.

Probably as simple as a variable duty cycle controller giving a variable voltage. DC motor controller might be the best way forward, or the £450 mapped ECU from townend garage.

Thumbs up

No power = open (ie 35:65 front:rear). Moray Mac for instance runs a dccd box with no ecu or power just to have this split.

Paul, r u sure it has a TPS input ?????

It would be useful to have the wiring diagram of the DCCD fitted to the GC8 cars

Paul,

I didn't think TEG themselves were doing the standalone controller anymore.

I think it is only available in conjuction with a GEMS ECU.

Plug in diff ECU as I understand it.

Read this months CCC for details, also available mapped from GEMS ecu.

I could be wrong though.

Inputs are thumb wheel and hand brake (to open)

Gems ecus for MY99-00 only operate the diff via throttle position, it can be mapped as you like.

The ecu can also use the input from the brake light, doesn't work well with left foot braking though.

I have a switch on the dash to change between normal (thumbwheel) and auto (TP only).

AFAIK it's available as a seperate ecu for £450 from TEG.

TEG handed over development and production to gems.

They now sell a separate ecu purely for this purpose. I believe it works out at about £250 mapped and in the car and comes with a variety of maps for different driving styles.

To my knowledge, closure locking voltage of the diff is more like 0.6 volts.

Andy, if you get one, let me know what you think of the handling afterwards. Have heard very good feedback on these but am always sceptical since it has no input from steering angle, and only has digital input from brakes based on brake light.

I was under the impression that the DCCD was controlled by a PWM modulated signal rather than a voltage modulated signal.

which can be the same thing when the PWM is at 10khz

Again does anyone have the technical drawings, or wiring diagram of the DCCD system ..... if so can they scan it and post it, or send it to my email.

Thanx,

Carlos H.
