Just to start things off. Could it be that UK cars have longer gearing and are remapped for UK fuel? Whatever the differences I'm sure you'll pay a premium just for the exclusivity of being 1 of only 16 UK cars.

Red face

Its as slowboy says, the uk ones are remapped for uk fuel (97 ron) and have longer gearing and better suspension (for our bumpy uk roads )
These being "official" cars for the uk and the fact they are quite scarce will keep their value higher
Some of the downsides are the fact that parts are extremely expensive, just to show you the difference, a P1 front wing will cost around 100 quid, unpainted, the equivelant 22B's front unpainted wing (original item) is 2.5k
I personally think that the 22B is an awesome car (much more exclusive than a P1 or the likes ), but no matter if its a Type UK or a JDM version these are definately a second car rather than a daily user.

Tony

Only 16 customer Uk 22B and 399 JDM ones and a few extra which went to Subaru people and other countries about 425 in total IIRC.

Question

I think it is down to exclusivity of the UK spec car.
Only 16 offical cars made available and the rumours are that only 10 of these are left in the country and a couple belong to McRae an Grist.

Question

Do the UK cars have different suspension?

Are they remapped or is the mapping merely to increase the knock sensitivity as with the P1s?

There are several major differences between the car market in Japan, and ours. The Japs have an aversion to buying someone else's cast-off, and so the used car market is less evident than here, also the prices in the second-hand sector are far lower. Bear in mind that they're paying less for the new stuff, and you can imagine that there are some astounding bargains to be found.
I came across some very desirable cars less than half the UK equivalent. It is a temptation to take a holiday in Japan and ship a vehicle back here, cutting out the middle men, who are doing nicely on very fat mark-ups. Think what the 22B would have cost in Japan! Another strange Japanese attitude is their contempt for servicing, and so a check on the car's history is vital. Bear that in mind if you take a serious look at anything from an importer and never accept any excuses why the record is unavailable.

I've just had to make that choice. I own a garage business, so the act of car repair isn't a problem, but spares prices are, just the same as anybody else. I looked longingly at the 22B knowing it's the ultimate Impreza, but I've gone for a P1, on the basis that it's a limited edition, but a doddle to look after. It's a bit like that Supermodel you lust after, she's sexy as hell, but high maintenance, and could cost you more than you bargained for !
