I keep seeing £1600 being quoted as the cost for the Prodrive Performance Pack for an MY03 WRX. My dealer says there is VAT to pay on top. So basic price is £1617.02, plus £282.98 VAT, gives a total of £1900 fitted.

Is this right, or is he ripping me off. Having it done today so any quick advice would be much appreciated.

I as far as I am aware it is £1600 inc for the WRX and £1900 inc for the STI.

Try giving Prodrive a ring, I am sure they will be able to tell you.

Not had it done myself (can't justify that much outlay) but always thought that the total cost incl VAT and fiting was £1600

Definitely will not spend £1900 on it!

It is including VAT... Ask them, politely, to check... And go elsewhere if they insist.

It's £1600 exactly, including VAT and fitting for the WRX03 PPP.

God this makes me fume

The RRPs are £1600 for the WRX and £1995 inc VAT and fitting. I'm sick of dealers screwing people. Even if you're generous the best you can call them is ignorant. Personally, I'm not a generous guy.

Although I understand that the dealers make bog all on the PPP, and some feel it's not worth their while, if they don't want to fit it then they don't have to. You can always find a dealer who'll do it for the correct price.

Uprated (blue) intercooler pipework, removal of one cat: replace with a straight through pipe, reprogrammed ECU, big bore rear silencer. Not much work really for your £1600 but worth it to keep warranty intact

Oh and you get a certificate from Prodrive to say its been fitted

Well well well. Guess what. I turn up with my WRX at said dealer this morning to have the PPP fitted. I politely suggest there is an error on my invoice for the price of the pack. He checks and says no that is correct, the cost is £1600 PLUS vat! I tell him that I called some other dealers as I was driving up there (which is true) and they all said it should be £1600 including vat. He squirms and goes off, comes back, goes off again, comes back again, and finally tells me that he can indeed do it for £1600 all in. Very generous of him.

What a lying, devious little sh*t! I bet a lot of people have taken him at his word and paid an extra £300 worth of 'virtual' VAT when they didn't need to.

Anyway the story ends well 'cos I have just driven home with the PPP on the car and have a huge grin on my face now
