STI 7 is a joke standard. It has so little torque low down it verges on being dangerous, especially after a cold start and during the warm up phase. I couldn't get mine up the drive without giving it death.

The PPP improves it no end, assuming you get one that works properly.

Haven't driven an 8 so can't comment.

I'm so far having difficulty accelerating cleanly from standstill in my (so far) non-PPPed but run-in Sti8. The technique has so far eluded me and I find that the car either bogs down and limps away from the line with little power or, given more revs, I can smell the clutch being tortured.

Anyone care to describe how to do it properly?

Must be you. I've had no problems.

I gently let the clutch out and increase revs smoothly for day to day work so as not to put adverse pressure on the clutch. Not too bothered about the getaway as I'm not on a race track. More interested in having useable power in the 30-80 range myself

no problems with me either.

although i do get the burnt smell if you dump the clutch at high revs looking for a quick exit.

"Get a PPP" is actually very good advice, in all honesty I found that the power delivery was so poor below about 4000 revs on my standard 7 the only way to get away with anything like a reasonable turn of speed was to scorch the clutch slightly which as you know "stinks" under little provacation, not a nice thing to do to the poor old thing either.
Since my PPP the car pulls cleanly and requires no excessive clutch slipping anddoes not bog down like it used to.

Thanks scoobycar, I agree that getting the PPP should sort out the botttom end torque problems and its on order. Just surprised at the current lack of it.

Cool

Why be surprised?? This is how it was designed - to pot around town when you want and because of the short gearing it allows you to get into (and stay in) the power band.

Not had any particular problems myself, either with or without PPP.

If you don't use enough revs it will bog down a bit, but high revs and slipping or dumping the clutch aren't going to do it any good.

I tend to use a little more revs, and feed the clutch in a little slower. Although if I'm to be completely honest, even though I've had the car for more than two months now, I've been surprised how long it's taken me to get used to a VVT engine again, especially with the extra gear.

Surprised after having previously driven cars with normally aspirated engines with torque extending much further down the rev range. There is a huge difference between the character of this engine and that of virtually any other car I've driven. When it picks up though......strewth.

Russell, sounds just like the STi8. I suppose given the minimal differences between the two engines then its only to be expected. The PPP is being fitted on Saturday morning by Simpsons of Swindon, who I'm given to believe are pretty good.
Drooling at the prospect.
