After driving back from work yesterday at a quite hard pace, I started to notice that the car was starting to hesitate under boost, So I quickly backed off and drove home all sensible again.

Went out this morning to drive it and the car will now only boost to 6psi and I can hear a strange clicking noise coming from the engine bay when I start to build up pressure.

The car before would boost to around 20psi, so I always run the car with optimax or Sul and usually put in octane boost.

The car is a MY93 WRX with a K&N induction kit and full de-cat.

Please help !!

Thanks

sounds like your boost solenoid might be the problem. Thats about the boost you'd be running without any bleed off between turbo compressor housing and actuator, my advice would be to take the pipes off the solenoid and spray carb cleaner in there.

But alternatively the ecu could be in safe mode due to something else failing, so prob best to do a CEL

check engine light, do a search for it, do you know about the plugs under the dash that when connected allow you to read off any error codes that may be stored?, might be a good place to start

Cleaned out the solenoid and pipes , which were not that dirty really.
I have also connected the two green wires together to run the solenoid test and sparyed more brake cleaner through it.
But still no joy

If the solenoid is ticking does that mean it's working correctly ??

Thanks

Worth checking all the pipes coming off the solenoid for splits.

Suspect anything that's black and pipelike... This sort of thing is a real pain to find, but usually a very easy (and cheap) fix when you do! Oh, and keep using the cleaner, sometimes one dose isn't enough as the solenoids have very fine holes through them.

Have fun!

Apparently when Simon cleaned it, there wasn't much muck in there, which leads to me think that a split pipe is more likely!
