I have read loads of different opinions on tyre choice & F1s seem to be popular but my question is my new sti8 ppp will have 18in wheels with p-zero neros fitted, is it worth talking to the dealer & getting f1s instead. Also what are the 18 in sizes so I can get an idea of price?

good question - me interested too. I've just taken the 18" option + PZeros. If there is much better stuff around I'll leave on the original wheels and switch after I've got the motor

 

Dont bother, lots of people dont rate P-zeros in the wet, but i think they are excellent. And with Spring/Summer coming up there is no point changing.

People cant deny that P-zero's are one of the best tyres on the market otherwise why would come standard on 22B's, Porsche's, Audi RS4, RS6, and the top performance Jags!!

I speak under correction but don't think any 18" tyres are likely to be crap. Personally I've had good service/performance out of a range of Pirelli's (albeit not P Zero's in 18") and would stick with them if I were you.

 

These Pzero Neros seem better than the 'standard' pzeros I've have on previous scoobs. I'd say it's like comparing Bridgestone SO2s to SO3s. I'm happy with them on my blobby8.
If you want to save money though you can buy just the wheels from Subaru UK and have whatever tyres you want fitted.
My favourite tyres are still Bridgestone SO2s though saying that.
oh and you want 225/40/18
Ah yeah and Dunc...Prodrive/Subaru have a pretty big tie up in motorsport so I'm not suprised to see them using pzeros...though in this case I think they are indeed good shoes...if a bit pricey through the Subaru dealers.

I hated the OEM PZeros on my P1, but have been perfectly happy with the Neros I put on my 18s. They seem to have much better wet grip than the old ones.

I have to agree with Chuck in that they do seem a little expensive through IM though.

Never driven with P Zeros Lardy, but I have got F1's on my car and they are outstanding in the dry and better than that in the wet! Wet roads feel like dry ones and they dont seem to wear out that quickly either. I do like going round corners too.

Drove an Jag XJ6 with P-zeros on 18" in the wet on a few occasions

It was always a bit sideways when pulling out of junctions, but I suppose I'm used to 4wd . It seemed to be better on dunlops.

I am informed that generally Pirelli's are'nt the best out there, but definetely not the worst.

I completely agree with you on the Zeros, but the Neros are in a different class IMHO.

Coincidentally, the Pirellis slaughtered everone in the recent Autocar tyre tests.

I had P-Zero's on my 18"s - can't say I was overly impressed. They tramlined very badly after only 8 or 9000 miles on them. Wet performance was nothing to shout about either - S02 / S03 and Toyos are all better IMHO (yes, I've used all the above tyres in 17" and/or 18" versions).

In contrast, the current 18" S03s are much harder wearing and their tendency to tramline has really only become noticable over the last few thousand miles as they have worn. Bear in mind that the S03s have done more than double the miles that the original P-Zero's did. S03s don't have the outright grip of an S02 or Toyo, but they are not a bad comprimise.

That said, I've seen 18" Toyo's for around £105 a corner (whereas S03s are closer to £140) and I think I will go for these next time.
