Just been having a look at the warranty deatils for my 03 Sti8 and have noticed that there is no mention of the 20K warranty on the Clutch. It now says that worn clutches are not covered.

On previos cars I have had new clutches before 20K as they have tended to start juddering (Especially when cold). Could IM now consider clutch judder as 'worn' ?? or does it mean that the clutch is now covered for the full 3yr/60K ? including the known judder problem ??

Has anybody got the answer to this or have Subaru finally cured this problem with the clutches ???

I very much doubt anybody will really know for sure until they try to make a claim, or if people stop having problems, and as the highest mileage STi8s I know of are still sub 5k, it'll be a while.

I'm sure the last book stated 20K on clutch. The new one doesn't say anything other than what I have posted, so I am just curious to see if they have modded the clutch from 02's

As far as I was aware,if it is a Uk spec motor, they will accept claims up to 30k, its the dealers that "set their own limit", just so they get the job at full retail rate, if you get my drift.
you can always contact IMHO customers services if the dealer is trying to deny over a milage thing..

 

I had a clutch replaced, under warranty, at 38K last November.
At the time, I was told it was a revised, complete assembly that was fitted to ensure a good fit of the pressure plate/clutch/flywheel etc. instead of ordering in individual components.
This new package now does the same as the OE clutch (3000miles later), so unless there is another new clutch assembly, I shouldn't imagine the problem has been fixed.
As far as warranty issues go, I'm under the impression a juddering clutch will be replaced up to 60000miles/3years.

When I was looking at a new scooby the dealer specifically mentioned that the clutch was excluded from the warranty. Would imagine there must be a 'fit for purpose' argument though.

 

Yes, I'm sure that something has been re written in the 03 Warrant book. I'll make some enquiries at the dealer when I get chance.

I have been told that the judder is caused by hard acceleration from pulling off in first gear ? Surely Subaru can design a clutch to be heavy duty ?

Euro imports list the clutch in the items that are not covered by warranty, e.g. tyres, battery etc. Would be interested to know how sustainable this position is.

What's to stop the manufacturer sourcing dodgy electric window motors and then writing them out of the warranty because they are likely to fail.

Is your clutch on the "Warranty excludes ..." list? If not then it is probably covered to the same extent as the rest of the car.

 

When I had the clutch done at 12k in my old forester GLS my dealer asked me if I towed anything with it (to which I replied no) and told me that it would be done FOC as long as the clutch wasn't burnt out.(which it wasn't.)
I guess they wouldn't do a high mileage clutch, and the judder is simply from slipping the clutch when pulling off in 1st when the clutch is cold.
