Hi People!!

Can anyone advise me of a great tyre to go for. I bought a pair of pirelli P6000 just before christmas I have done 7000 miles on them and they are *****&d. I drive an MR2 Turbo (245bhp rear wheel drive if that helps). I didn't mind the wear too much but grip was cack!!!! Pleeeeeeeease help!!!!!!

 

P6000 will be well out of their depth with 200BHP+.

I have just put SO2s on my impreza - the difference between those and standard tyres is phenomenal! and at £499 for 4 x 17" fully inclusive, are almost as cheap as P6000.

To compare, P6000 are below P7000 which are below P-Zeros. SO2s are way better than P-Zeros. Different league compared to 6000's.

I have 17" Toyo Proxes T1-S @ £399.26 for the four inc fitting, valve and balance. Also complete with Toyo 5 yr no quibble warranty. Toyo contribute £5 to the cost of a puncture repair and a percentage of the remaining tread depth of a tyre not repairable to BS159e against a new Toyo tyre by a particiating Toyo dealer. Below are the percentages versus remaing tread depth that Toyo will contribute:

8mm 100%
7mm 85%
6mm 70%
5mm 60%
4mm 45%
3mm 25%
2mm 10%
<1.6mm nil

This seems like a good deal and the tyres certainly get a good write-up. However, do you know how well they perform compared with S02s?

Every one I know who has experienced both TOYO and SO2s say SO2s are far superior, but more expensive. Toyos are the best of the budget brands.

Anyone tried Goodyear F1s against the SO2s? Preferably on 16inch rims.

There was a previous posting (sorry can't remember who or when) to a link which reviewed opinions of around 20 scoob owners with S02's. Whilst most rated them highly a few thought they were terrible (mainly scoobs with 16 inch wheels). This put me off getting S02's for my MY 98 turbo (with 16 inch wheels).

I got Toyos instead and they seem good.

SO2's on 16" wheels seem to need a long bedding-in period of well over 1,000 miles. Most owners become happy with them after that period, however you also need to consider that they will only last 12,000 miles or so.

I am currently using Yoko AVS Sports. I am not decided which I prefer at the moment.

 

The Toyo T1S is fantastic. It's the best tyre I've driven on my scoobies.

 

To those who aren't called Colin/Juha/Richard etc, is the Bridgestone SO-2 really so much better than the Toyo T1-S?


The Toyo does seem to be a good deal price-wise.

Have only ever been passengered in a Toyo shod impreza, but the difference did seem substantial in the wet - car understeered 10 mph sooner on same corner.

I have just fitted SO2's after seeing them reccomended everywhere!.

I have a friend who has SO2's on his MR2 Turbo and they are excelent, also another mate has SO2 on the back and Toyo on the front of his Elise, he also rates them as excelent. It depends what you want to pay.
