Has anyone had or heard about the ITG panelfilter giving MAF failure on a WRX ´01 or ´02?

I ask because I just ordered one and now see suggestions that also panelfilters can cause this.

I read a thread a while ago about ITG being stuffed with some green oil. Is it possible to squeeze some of this out?

 

I've run my MY01 with one for about 8 months with no problems whatsoever,they do have a polymer coating for filtration but the excess will only drip into the lower half of your airbox not the upper half where the air is taken into the engine and its only a tiny amount over a period of time,i havent heard of any MAF failures on the MY01 onwards due to the ITG.
Make sure you re-fit the top cover of the airbox correctly when you fit the ITG, this is the area that causes the most problems with incorrect re-fitting of the airbox.

Ref: Is it safe/ I doubt it would give any significant gain over the time it takes to do it,personally i wouldnt bother.

I had a Ramair filter in my old MY95 and when i checked it like Zippy said there was a puddle of oil like stuff in the bottom of the airbox ,so checking the pipes to the turbo you could see the oil stuff present in them took me ages to clean it all off so i changed it to a JR one (K&N type)but a dry one and i'm running the same filter in my MY99 with no problems .

but it each to his own .

 

have run mine for 8 months, no probs - 10k miles

 

Currently on my second itg filter, 35,000 miles with no probs and the MAF is spotless.

 

ITG panel filter ruined the MAF on my STi V. It didn't feel like it gave any more power or better response either - I'd just stick to replacing the paper one frequently.

 

Have to agree with Eric, just had to replace my MAF on MY00, have run an ITG for 25K miles, since the first service. The mesh inside the intake was covered in some sort of soot as was the sides of the intake, not sure what it was, the induction was standard apart from the ITG. Now using the OEM paper filter.
