Has anyone got any views on good radar detectors. Do they work / are they worth getting?

I live in London and am getting increasingly annoyed by the amount of speed traps appearing all over the place!

I've got a Beltronics thingy and it works fine.
Lets me know when there are cameras or mobile traps.

Unfortunately it also lets me know every time I go past anything that has a radar, including traffic lights and petrol stations.

I've tried putting it on the city setting, but it stills picks up a lot of everyday electric things. Still, rather that then lose the license.
It has saved me a few times now.

Question

Dustbin,

have (can) you disable X-band detection?

It cuts down false alarms to almost zero!!!

You do get false alarms, sometimes the cameras are pointing the other way or are on a different but close section of road.

Morpheus system is good

NO False alarms

But :-

1)Does not warn you about mobile Gatso's
2)Does not advise wether dummy camera or active
3)Does not warn about plod with a laser

I will stick to my Snooper and the false alarms

Do you not have automatic door openers in the Midlands? I've got a Bel 990i and get no end of 'false' alarms on the K and Ku bands every time I drive past a garage / DIY store etc.

If I drive into a garage with automatic doors it just sits there going manic with a signal strength of about 7!

Nick,

yeh, you are right - i forgot about the B&Qs of this world etc. However, on normal roads (not inside filling stations, supermarkets and the like) false alarms have dropped significantly since i disabled X-band. Even more so on motorways.

Phil,

Very true, but your Snooper won't get Truvelo or SPECs as they don't use Radar.

Are hard to spot if you don't know they are there!

We all know camera's are only at the accident black spots, so when my Geodessy beeps it must be danger ahead...
