well after waiting a LONG time this has finally turned up, and it does exactly what it says on the tin.

Up and running within about 10 minutes!

I've yet to try out the wireless strength.

It's the cheapest single box ADSL modem, Ethernet router and wireless I've found.

Would an ADSL router + WAP do the same job?

worked fine with VPN, I didn't do anything, it just VPNd into my work.

It has all sorts of VPN type settings, from their webpage:

Which VPN protocols does the Vigor support ?
The Vigor2200 series routers supports IPSec Tunnelling, PPTP, L2TP and L2TP over IPSec. IPSec can operate in AH or ESP mode, with or without authentication, and with DES or 3DES encryption. Specification varies with model, so check the exact details for your preferred model.

What can the Vigor make a tunnel to/from ?
The Vigor can operate VPNs across the Internet :

From a single user on a PC with suitable VPN client (e.g. Windows 98/NT/2K/XP client. Once logged in, the user can then access the LAN's resources through the tunnel. Teleworkers can use PPTP (Win 98/2K/XP/NT4) or IPSec/L2TP (Win2K/XP-Pro).
To another Vigor router - Two remote LANs are then linked by the tunnel. Users on each LAN can access resources on the other.
To a Windows 2000 Server
To a router/firewall VPN product from other vendors running compatible/common VPN protocols (see below) .
With up to 16 tunnels simultaneously (capacity varies with model)

web page says:

Compatible with any other device complying with the 802.11b Protocol

no idea if you can get it anywhere else apart from seg.co.uk, I pre-ordered from them

wireless coverage looks good, went from excellent to good on my ipaq when I moved from top far bedroom (where unit is) to downstairs lounge on the other side of the house.
