ive had 3 cosworths 2 4 wheel drives and 1 2 wheel drive, sold my last one ,the other week, lookin for a scooby, now more modern, and ive drove a few wrx impreza's now ,and to be honest performance wise they feel slow and bland, by comparrison ,all my cosworths and others have a real kick in the pants feel when the turbo kicks in but the wrx's seem like drivin a normal fast car dont even make your tummy feel funny , no smilin face or even a wow, ferk me that was fast feelin, whats goin on ive driven 7 now, and ive put a deposit on a 95 wrx ,looks mint so im goin to go for it , may be im driving them all wrong they just seem to rev like mad , but dont give any feel of real power, any one else notice this, or have most people com up from normal family cars, then a scooby would seem fast, but to me mmm im doin some thing wrong, Handling oh my G awaome yes but even on motorways in top nothin like my old stage 1 e reg 2 wheel drive cosworth, on a good day would inicate 165 may be a bit moor, was ported too lol, please e.mail me if youve any answer arh had the same experience as me , cheers ,mark

Look at the dyno section and you see that a similar bhp scoob wil have around 60 - 100 lb'ft less torque than the cossie. So thats why your not gettin the kick in the teeth the cossie delivers

Hi Mark

I can't comment on any Cosworth as I've never driven or been driven in one. I just wondered why you've decided to buy a Subaru when they're in your words, "slow and bland"? If I felt that strongly, then I wouldn't bother.

Cheers

Mike

I came from a modded cossie to a uk scoob. My cossie had 354lbft at its peak and would go very quicly indeed!. However i can say that even when my scoob was standard an average journey was always as quick in the scoob if not quicker.

If you want that feeling of sheer power in all gears then you have bought the wrong car, unless you have a lot of cash.

The scoob isn't the best for impressing your mum/gran/friends in the passenger seat. I've been driving in countless scoobs and of course have my own MY99 but none have been particularly impressive in a straight line or for the 'pin factor' (with the exception of Andy f's). However, when driven correctly through tight horrible twisty roads you can't help but sit and **** your pants in the passenger seat. That to me is way more impressive and the way the engine delivers its power makes such driving even more impressive and cruicially do-able. By my own admission my car is set up badly for handling at the moment but when I opened her up with a car full of peeps on on a mega tight single track road (at night and with peeps permissions) they all left grinning and shaking which is why the scooby is so impressive IMO. They never seemed too impressed when I floored it in a straight line on the open roads.

Hope this helps you to see what sort of car your buying into

again never driven a cossie, but when you are going round the twisty stuff and you take a glance at the speedo it is quite scary when you realise how quickly you are covering ground.

p.s. you'd be more disapointed with a new WRX, it is no where near as quick as my old MY99... but round the corners is even more composed, if lacking a little in feel, you just have to trust that it can do it.

-----The new STI however does indeed give you a kick in the pants, I found it equal in that respect to the delivery of the Evo VI but I've never been in a cossie.

Cossies invariably produce more torque than BHP so give you a massive kick when the turbo spins up. The evo scoob and skyline engines in general deliver less torque than BHP so you don't get such a big kick up the backside. There are loads of dyno' graphs on this site and you will see how the various engines produse their respective power. There is a cossie evo and skyline on there so you can compare

I'll give you a kick in the pants if you want - then let you sit in my STI for another one

Also remember that modern turbo applications have a more linear power delivery, thats one reason why the WRX feels loads slower than the MY97on Turbo, the earlier UK cars had the bigger turbo and do kick when the turbo spools.

Look at the dyno's of the big turbo cars, sti's etc, the power and torque comes in all at once giving you that kick. It doesn't however mean it will be quicker than a car with a smoother power delivery on the road. The new sti ppp brings in the boost smoother and earlier making the car quicker and more drivable.

Just to compare have a look at the VAG turbo's such as the Octavia RS, maximum torque from 1750 to 5500rpm and the torque "curve" is totaly flat. You don't feel any kick as you are maintaining nearly full boost from only 1000rpm above tickover. If you had no boost until 3500rpm then it came in all of a sudden the car would no doubt give you a kick but would be slower for it.

well i think i opend a can of worms ,m didnt i , ok ok stop it now ive bought one and found youve got to really rev n thump it through the gears n it feels fast , its a lot more smother power delivery than a cosworth, my mates cossie has 450 bhp and ove 400 lb feet of torque now that scares me **** in ell ,and 4 wheel drive now he recons that the scooby is quick and as most of you WHO KNOW WHAT I MENT ,its the way the power is delivered doesnt feel as quick as any of my cosworths but it actually is. its so much smoother ,and my mate absolutly loves the handlin , he,s ferkin mad though banned 3 times ,drives like a getaway driver , should see him in the scoob o my god awsome ,yet the car feels so safe n just wants to go round the corner, if it slides back off n it grips brill
