80/100 w... an urban myth
I've always run 80/100's in my previous Scoobs (MY97/99). The dealer even recommended them as a worthwhile upgrade when I bought my first car (they even put them in prior to me picking the car up). For some reason, I've never bothered to put then in the Fugly. Now getting darker and as I'm doing big miles again (all luvly Scottish B-roads), in they've gone. As the dipped beam in the MY01 is about as good as the previous two cars (IE. Crap) and "yes" I run driving lights as well.
I got to thinking, that though I've seen loads of posts over the last couple of years on this issue. I've never seen anyone actually say that "they" have had problems. People who don't know about having to squeeze the connector before removing them, don't count (IE. the myth about the bulbs welding themselves into the socket!).
So.... has anyone "actually" had problems? Rather than "the SIDC FAQ says....", "I have a mate/friend/brother etc. who's had a problem", "I've read it in another thread/AUTOCAR/EVO etc.".
I know that after three cars and some 100k+ miles, I've never had any. Comments anyone?

Hi mate
I actually did and posted a couple of piccy's up here a while back. Fortunately, the damage was limited to the backs of both connectors and I have to say, I am in the minority as far as bad experiences go.
Cheers

Ran 80/100 on my Civic. Went to take them out when i sold it and the connecters had gone extremely brittle. Several bits broke off. Impreza ones looked "less solid" than Hondas so have never put them in.

Thanks folks,
As I thought. Most people who've tried it (well the ones that have read this thread at least)have not really had any problems. Interesting. Maybe if you sit in traffic a lot and the heat builds up etc. An excuse to keep moving me thinks.
Enjoy your cars....

I had 80/100 Powerwhites and both bulbs blew in less than a year. One connector needed a lot of force to get it off.
I'm now on Philps Vision Plus which are legal and offer a good improvement over standard.

I'm running 80/100 Rally Spec bulbs and so far the only problem is that the top of the drivers side connector has melted and the wire broke. One 10A crimpp and electrical tape-up later and all is well

P1Dan, just how blue are these Ring Sportzblue bulbs? Thinking of going for a set cos the bulbs with a slight blue tinge actually look closer to white IMO (makes normal bulbs look yellow) but don't want boy-racer blue!
Failing that I think I'll go for the Vision Plus. Anyone comment on the colour compared to normal bulbs (I know they're 50% brighter but any closer to true white like HIDs?).
