Does anyone remember these?

I have definite recollections of 'white dog poo' as a child.

It's *not* just an urban myth

Can anyone else remember 'white deposits' ...and why don't you see them any more

Yep seen em myself. Are they not done by albino dogs?

Funniest was at Xmas as a kid my mum made a huge cake with various festive characters molded from coloured icing. My brother ate a load of blue ones and his **** was blue! I kid you not!

I'm sure I read about this somewhere recently. It said that the reason you don't see it anymore is, dogs are no longer given bones to chew, and it's the calcium that turns the poo white.

Martin.

God, yeah!

I feel old now.

Dogs control was less tight 20 yrs ago, and strays were your normal house pet - in my memory!

I grew up on a bad council estate in Leeds, though!

I'm ok now

I remember it too-I always thought it was poodle-poo for some reason.I think it was something to do with the food available at the time.

it is caused by the dog having bile duct obstruction: either by a stone or cancer usually.

any vets on here might confirm or refute this but I think I'm right.

Maybe the owners of white dog poo dropping dogs are more concientious and carry a pooper scooper around with them?

maybe its something to do with the fact that most dog poo is picked up as per the law now, and the white ones were only dried out normal ones that had been there for a loong time.....

ya think?

Or maybe the aliens take it all

Years ago manufacturers used to use ash as an additive and that give it a whitish colour. Today dog owners prefer to use a prepared food with a milk based calcium source so there are no bone flakes to make it appear white.

The other reason for dog faeces turning white when left on the pavement is that mould starts to grow on it turning it white. The mould - a yeast takes about 3-4 days to grow and these days town and city councils tend to clean the streets more quickly than they used to, removing the faeces before the mould turns it white.

If any of you out there have ever had a Barium enema, ( and I'm not recommending it, you understand?), you'll have been amazed to find that your next motion was also white!

I always thought you got white dog poo because it had been out in the sun/elements for so long. I also thought that the reason you don't see them anymore is because the general dog owning public are more vigilant and clear it up before it gets the chance to dry out.

Where do you think Parmesan comes from !

No its still about, if I dont get all the poop whilst doing the gardening and miss one, I do then find the odd white one amongst the free range dog eggs on the next visit.

MartinDB has the correct answer.

My two labradors produce the stuff every time have eat bones. Which is quite often, so we get a lot of the stuff. I could go into an exposition about the relative ease of picking up different varieties of dog mess.......
