Has anyone got any helpful hints on sorting out partially siezed rear calipers. I have not yet started (still b**dy raining) but some hints would very well received.

I have now dismantled both sides of the rear brakes, and both calipers seemed fine! It looks as thought the braking/wear has been more on one side than the other, other than that the braking see/look fine.
What is realy annoying is that the brakes really squeals as I drive along for at least 4 minutes after I brake. This gradually dies off until I apply the brakes again, so at the moment I try not to brake until I have to - makes for interesting driving (if I apply the hand brake it starts squealing again)!
Any suggestions?

Sounds like you need to get some anti-squeal grease on the backing plates (more accurately between the shims and backing-plate). When you dismount the stuff, give all the contact points (bolts, mountings etc) a good blast with some brake cleaner so everything goes back on true.

Unfortunately the uneven wear is std on the floating calipers Unfortunately the 2-pot rears from the WRX do not bolt on like the 4-pot fronts...

Hope this helps a bit

Thanks AJ, I'll give the brake cleaner a try if problem continues.
The un-even wear is not on each caliper (that looked OK for once!), but from one side of the car to the other on the rear brakes! The off-side looks was more worn than the other, and felt hotter after a goo go on the brakes...!

hmmm, sounds like they need to be taken down (pads out, liberal cleaner blasts around the pistons and caliper body - thoroughly cleaned).

Be sure to push the piston all the way back once after the above to hopefully clear dust or whatever is sticking, then more blasts of cleaner...(don't forget to pump the pedal a few times before going for a drive though!!)

A bleed/fluid change may help too...doing the whole lot if you have not done so for a while can't hurt. A "fun" weekend project
