Red face

Sorry to hear about this...

I left my wife and daughter in the car yesterday whilst I popped into a shop..

whilst gone a guy openned his door into the car... my wife was feeding our baby so couldn't do anything... I came back and she told me as the car was driving off.. got his number... but what use is it?
apart from a shouting match if I had chased and stopped him... what do you do?
There is not really any point... apparently the wind cault the door rather than him just mindlessly openning it...
still a pain in the **** and now I have another pop dent...
The side strips are looking more likely to appear on my car.. anyone know the price?

has anyone else experianced anything like this? After going on a 4 hour drive (at about 3 am) I got back, had some kip then got up to get some shopping to find out that my passenger side door + wing mirror had been smeared with oil, and that the drivers door handle had loads of chewing gum in it..

It's the only really cr*p bit about owning a scooby - people see it as a target for mindless stupidity.. It has made my whole morning suck..

it does my head in when the bu66ers do that.

i had my door and heated electric wing mirror scratched and smashed on the honda civic i had last.

as for the car park dents, then i always make sure i park across 2 spaces. i had an argument with an old codger in a homebase car park and basically told him that when people can learn to open their doors without hitting other peoples cars, then i would park in one space and until that day (the same day as a cow jumps over the moon) i will continue to park in 2 spaces.

Cool

krankyd,

Look on the bright side, they could just have easily ran a key along the side of your car...

I had something similar to this happen to me a couple of weeks ago. Got out of my car one day and noticed somebody had spat all down the passenger window. Couple of days later got out and noticed somebody had spat a piece of chewing gum onto the rear windscreen. Both of these must have happened as I was driving to and from work as I have to drive through quite a busy town center. At first I was angry and then I smilled and thought that they did it because they were so jealous and probably had no chance of every owning a decent car in their lives. 30 seconds with the jet washer and everything was fine again.

Agree with all points above! I ALWAYS park over two spaces in car parks, but always well away from the actual shop itself so less chance of getting berated!

As to vandalism, I have (fingers crossed) been very lucky and have not had any bad experiences.

Major bummer when it does happen though. Bl00dy ******* are everywhere and we are paying their taxes! The sooner we introduce islamic law the better! (Cut their hands off for minor theft and the family jewels for Scooby vandalism!)

Cheers,

Mossman

I have now had my car vandalised TWICE in two months. One night someone went down my road and keyed the side of EVERY 'nice' car. Fortunately mine came of less worst with only damage to the rear quarter, a BM330Ci had flowers drawn along the side!

Then on Friday some ****** decided to put his 'tag' on my bumper with a key, I've got ChipsAway coming to have a look on Thursday.

sorry I should quantify that.... bird ****...LOL

Didn't mean to make light of it. My car was about 3 weeks old and parked on Ashdown Forest. When we got back to it 3 old ladies using the boot to rest their bums on and the spoiler as a table for binoculars. Blipped the alarm, no movement, so my wife (it's her pride and joy as well) laid into them about showing some respect etc etc.

Sadly I think it's just the society we live in where people think actions speak louder than words. Just look at Oldham this weekend for evidence of this. I mean seriously, if you were p1ssed off would you set fir to one of your neighbours cars and start chucking petrol bombs about.

If any political party said they were going to bring back the stocks for petty crimes they would get my vote straiht away.

JGM, side strips well worth it.

Not a single parking dent after 2 years, and I'm not that careful where I park. I think they were only about £40 fitted at the dealer.

I think kids are the biggest problem. I always tell mine to be real carefull opening the doors, but once or twice they have beaten me to it and knocked the car next to me.

What do you do, I'm afraid I don't own up. It's dog eat dog and my insurance.

Question

Is it worth the hassle car insurance claims for a tiny pop dent?

I shall get some side strips and perhaps a visit from dent master to remove the few I have acumilated... then again my car is getting on a bit MY96... so perhaps I just ignore it...

Small consolation, but you don't want to own and park a nice new car here in central Lisbon.

Keying shiny paintwork seems to be the national sport. Forget Scoobs, I'm talking new Pug 106s, Focus, whatever. Really sickening. I guess as the average disposable income isn't that high, there is massive jealousy towards those wealthy enough to buy a new car (comments Rui?). I haven't lived in central London, but I would think it is much more pronounced here.

As for minor dents and collisions, you could spend thrice the price of the car if you repaired one each time it appeared. If you've no garage at home and at work, you're pretty stuffed.

Not looking forward to the day when/if I get a shiny new car.

I just wish there was some worthwhile penalty if they got caught.

They'd get flogged in the middle east!

Imagine how much the crime rate would come down if 12 year old yobs couldnt say "im underaged - foff pig" to every copper who nicked them. I say flogg em!!! then see them go near a car again!!

Unfortunately its not just Scoobies!!

I am not really a hang 'em and flog 'em person - more of a flog 'em, hang 'em and flog 'em again for good measure.

However, i recon that a public birching would help reduce car, car related, vandalism and petty crime no end i would include juvenlies 11+
at that age you are old enough to know what you are doing, right from wrong and should suffer the concequences for your actions.

This makes me so
Flogging, birching, yeah! too right. This is one area of vandalism that makes my blood boil. I'm biting my lip now, as I type. I can honestly say that I would completely FREAK ! if I cought someone "Keying" my Scoob. I fear it may lead to a prison sentence for me, because there is no way any ****** would get away without several broken fingers... MINIMUM !

Also a warning to druddle,Paul,Mossman, wrexy and others. In our local car park, I used to park over a bay and a half, I say half because one of the spaces was only wide enough for a very narrow car indeed. All was well for about 3 months, until one day, I returned to my car to find a note under the wiper, the contents of which were not only abusive but also threatening. Apparently I shouldn't have been such a selfish "Yuppy" Ba****d and if I did it again, then my car would suffer further. A quick gander at the passenger side revealed a nice big scrape, more than likely a screwdriver or some such.
So just be careful, certain "No brain" Dickh**ds, will go out of their way to be nasty, epecialy if your car is better than their's.

Don't think it just happens to nice cars. I have a sh1te E reg Escort that I use for commuting. In the 6 months I have had it it has had:

Front wipers nicked
Rear wiper broken
Drivers window smashed and steering lock broken,
Keyed down one side
Wing mirror boken
Door Handle riped off and
Mud Flaps ripped off.

I know it's a heap of **** and worth bugger all but it's my heap of ****

Now that is fu*kin' unbelievable!

I really do give up sometimes. Is it so bad that you work damn hard to afford a nice car!? It seems so these days. If it isn't car related vandalism, it's littering, petty theft etc etc the list goes on.

It gets me down

mixit - understand what you are saying but such are the benifits of the scoob being a company car !!!!!!!!!

if i get such a note then i shall be leaving one of my own on the dashboard. "vandalise the car if you like but i know i can park properly and pay more in tax for this car in a month than your sorry life is worth" or something similar. childish i know but hey who cares

hmmmmmmmmmm very strange this, I dont seem to ever see as many posts about this on the RSOC board as I do on here. Must be something about scoobs looking so mad and flash that people expect you SHOULD pay for them putting scratches on etc. I feel for you guys, really do! had it done to me once on my RS turbo cabrio, gutted wasnt the word, luckily my two babies are now pure diamond white, so scratches wont really show up as much (so maybe i better check them just in case!!!! )

I have to agree that petty crime and vandalism of any sort is such a waste of time and irritating as f**k!!

I guess I'm lucky living out in the sticks, havn't had any problems (touch wood), but if anyone used my car as a drawring board, like you guys, I'd feel the need to releave the little s**ts of a finger or two - maybe make them kiss the pavement 'American History X' stylee

It makes me sick reading about this. We cant stop it from happening. We can only beat 9 colours of **** out of the to55ers if we catch them.

And what's the chance of catching them when they're opportunistic, sneaky little cowards
