Default CV joint snap ring query

Hi All, looking for info before I start the task of changing the outer CV boot on my MY99 Wagon. What I understand so far is that I have to remove the outer CV joint, which is secured in place by a snap ring. So when (if) I successfully remove the CV joint, will I need a new snap ring. Coincidentally, I bought a new CV joint - the price was ridiculously low - £13.99, down from £139.99! The box contains the joint, a boot, clamps, grease but no snap ring. Thanks for any tips 👍

Hi
Been there with mine , the snap ring is inside the diff , not on the cv joints , would only need changing if they are broke
Cheers Ian

Thanks Ian 👍 really appreciate your answer.... that's got me a bit confused now.... so what holds the outer cv joint to the axle then.... 🤔 and any advise on the best way to make it part company from the axle (is it just a case of ecky thump) :-)
