Default Inner driveshaft boot

Drivers side is split on mine. What needs doing to replace it? Tricky job?

Cheers, TX.

I have done a few of these so I will try and talk you through it.

1. Slacken off wheel nuts and Jack the side of the car you are working on, fitting axle stands is a good idea too.
2. Remove the wheel
3. Remove one of the droplink bolts, you will have to jack up the hub assembly to take the strain off the bolt prior to removal, this should be apparent when you see it.
4. Mark the position that the suspension strut meets the hub assembly.
5. Undo the 2 bolts holding the suspension to the hub assembly.
6. Undo the and seperate the nut and split pin holding the track rod end to the hub assembly.
7. Remove the old inner boot either pull it back or cut it off.
8. Under the old boot there is a 3 pronged end of the drive shaft called a double offset joint (DOJ) this allowed to slide in and out as you will see but it will only slide so far as it is held in with a thin snap ring or c-clip, if you clear the grease a little you will be able to see the retaining ring. Carefully remove the retaining ring and with draw the shaft. Be carefl at this point as the DOJ has 3 bearings attached to it, make note of where they are incase they fall off.
9. Holding the DOJ in position is a circlip you will need circlip pliers to remove this. Remove the DOJ including 3 bearings and place to one side.
10. Now slide the new boot onto the shaft.
11. Ensure that everything is very clean and there is plenty of grease in the DOJ housing and refit everything sliding the new boot on as you reposition the shaft inc complete DOJ back into its housing. (the boot should come with metal type tie rings use these to secure the boot in position)

Cheers Iain
