It's time to replace all the discs and pads on the JDM Sti hatchback, i was just wondering if anyone else is using the Godspeed G Hook discs with their Kevlar pads as below

I've not used Kevlar pads before, what advantages or disadvantages do they have over a normal type pad ?

 

The kevlar pads are basically the first step up from standard , using the car as a daily , and a weekend blast , they are not good enough for a road racer or track days !
They work from cold , are quiet , easy on discs , and around 10% better than a standard pad when pressing on , easily our best selling pad.

My 2008 jdm sti hatch came with the j-hook disks and 6pot calipers. I'm not sure what pads are fitted but I've no issue with the disks. They're true and the amount of wear on them looks good too.
The kevlar pads were the first ones I bought for my previous scooby. They lasted a long time, and from memory, I didn't suffer from any fading. Again, these were good value. Godspeed are really helpful if you give them a call.

 

If you can get them for a similar cost to a decent OE spec pad they're fine but I wouldn't pay any extra for them. There are better road legal pads out there. I could be wrong but I don't think the kevlars are actually road legal, certainly the set I've had have no R90 markings.

Yes you're wrong , the kevlar pads are road legal , being only a small step up from a standard pad , as long as they are +/- 15% performance of a standard pad , they will be road legal , but then take the markings off any pad , and you can never prove what they are , so you can put a much better performing pad in and not worry , no one has ever been prosecuted for having a non REG90 pad fitted , it's usually repeated by scare mongerers !

The Yaris GR4 doesn't have road legal REG90 pads fitted as standard

And if you change to a non standard brake caliper , REG90 doesn't apply.

If you didn't know , and i'm assuming you don't , REG90 was brought in by the EU to stop the influx of poor quality pads coming in from China and India , it was brought in to make sure pads worked within 15% performance of a standard pad , it should have been 15% no less performing of a standard pad , but they did it + or - 15% , so means pads better than 15% were banned for road use , but since 1999 , as far as I know , no one has ever been prosecuted .

Reg90 only applies to countries in the EU , it doesn't count for outside of the EU , we are out of the EU now , so does it apply to the UK now ??

 

I've got the Godspeed Brembo kit for my classic a few years ago with G hook discs and DS2500 pads.

Take a little (not much) warming up but once done, they are great.

I went with Brembo discs and pads all round in the end as the car never gets driven hard and it doesn't get tracked, perfect for what i need them for.
