Default Car won't reverse or feels like something is gonna snap

Hi all I have a question... got a 2002 subaru impreza bug wagon for reference...

Cars "driving" has felt a little strange lately.. I had a little clunk or ting each time I turned the steering wheel esp when at slow speeds. I figured tie rod ends or something getting tired.

This morning I went to reverse.. car felt horrible.. like something was fighting against it.. it would reverse about 4 or 5 feet but then it feels like something is binding up and fighting against the car.. and if I was to push it any further I'd snap something underneath.😬 the car was vibrating whilst reversing so it really feels like something has seized.

Obvs first port of call is garage but anyone experienced this? Possibly a rear diff? Not sure if the 02 bug has centre diff myself?

Thanks
Ant

hey thanks for replying much appreciated

I found this thread and a few ppl seem to say similar things with it making a god awful sound or feeling. In my case it won't really move at all.. or not far without sounding likes it's gonna shear something!

cool thanks again.. I'll try and take a look myself. A peek under didn't reveal anything untoward really so defo gonna need a ramp asap.
