Pulled over last night for the first time in the car...
I was driving home on my usual little back route last night when I noticed a car would appear in my rear view mirror every now and then over the straights.
I returned to a very legal sedate speed and pootled on home... Said car was obviously a Police car so I pulled myself over 20 yards from home before he had the chance too. He had followed me for maybe 1.5 miles. "Do you know how fast you were driving down that road?? I was doing over 70 and you were still pulling away from me!"
He was always a way behind me so had no real idea of what speed I was travelling at. He then told me that they had been flagged down by two cyclists which I had passed who had voiced there concern at my speed. Bo11ocks they did!!!! I saw the two cyclists (this was at about 1 a.m.) way in the distance ahead of me and passed them at under 30 mph! There was no way that a) they would have been even mildly annoyed at my driving as I passed them so slowly or b) that the police had time to stop, have a chat , and then continue their pursuit of me.
Anyway, I told this to the Police, was polite as always when I know I may be in the wrong
, but still let them know I was pi55ed off I was stopped as I was driving well within in my limits, on back roads I have driven on for 10 years. As soon as I approached a built up area I slowed right down as I always do.
I recieved a producer for my trouble and I actually said that if my car had been stolen, I would have been happy if they had stopped it to check the driver's ID.
All's well that ends well, but they should not have lied to me about talking to the cyclists And I probably shouldn't have been driving quite as quickly as I was...

had a similar incident years ago, driving home in light fog, doing 30 in a 30
car behind me a way off. for some reason I was suspicious so made sure I didn't go over limit. limit changed to 40 so I increased speed a little but stayed just under 40. car behind speeds up and sure enough its old bill.
Pulls me over and bad attitude boy gets out and starts accusing me of doing over 50. I insisted politely that I had been watching my speedo and hadn't exceeded 40.
Its so maddening when you KNOW they're lying. What can you do about it. His mate wasn't keen to push these lies so they let me push off after a while.

Not sure they were in a good mood...
First off they clearly "didn't tell the truth" by mentioning the cyclist issue. They were both very young (you know, sub 30-35...) and I think once I mentioned I found it hard to beleive they had talked to the cyclists, they didn't want to push it any further. I was sober and polite, and they had no proof of my speed at all as I was too far ahead.
By the time they stopped me I was in front of the house so maybe they thought a vehicle check and a producer was enough. Anyway, I'm happy it didn't involve points as I would have accused them of lying re: the cyclists and no doubt it would have got messy...
The driver did say that if traffic had seen me, he thought it would have been 6 points straight off

I got stopped last night for the first time as i was driving home. Saw a car in rear view mirror and mentioned to my boyfriend that it's lights were rather bright. It followed me all the way down to my road and blocked me off as I was reversing back into my drive. Asked whether it was my car, how long I've it, where do I live etc, etc. Said they were questioning me because it was so late (12.30ish)?! He then asked me whether I had my driving licence on me- i replied no it's in my house and he said it was ok there was no need to go and get it if it was inside.
Princessyin,
No need to get it if it was inside?! Luck of the girls I think. Flame suit on, but women tend to get away with things alot more then men!! Coming from experience sitting in car with mum, girlfriend etc of course...
Maybe I should don a wig and a dress before I get in the car in future

Good point but at that time of night the last thing I wanted to do was fart around inside looking for paperwork - I wanted to go to bed! Which now that I think about it, isn't in the house!
Time to call the accountant who has all of my paperwprk

Don't they need to have measured your speed over a certain distance or have clocked you with a calibrated device to take any action? Surely 'I was doing 70 and you were pulling away from me ' isn't enough to secure a conviction?
Had something similar happen to me too... i was in my old car a 205 gti and it was about 2.30am and i have just got back off my holiday and i went to see my bird....
I was doing about 55 in a 50 but it was a dual carridge way and knowone was about i noticed a police car coming in the opposite direction so i slowed.... the copper then did a U turn and followed me for about 1 mile....
He got out the car with one of his bent copper mates and immedietly started to shout "you where speeding admit it now like a man..." i said i was not speeeding and how could he tell when he was coming towards me.... he then pointed out i had a brake light out, however i had a spare in the side pocket of my car which i showed him.... he then started walking around the car trying to pick at things but could find nothing...
He started having a right go and said if i dont admit it now i will go to court... and luckily for me my dads a soliciter so i said we will got to court and you can talk to my soliciter.... he then replied " right where going to let you off with a warning this time..."
Some coppers are total ****...!!

The lying scumbags do need to have proof of speed, unless they claim excess speed, or careless driving etc. If they claim excess speed then they only have to give an estimate, which can be difficult to defend. I think that they must train them to lie when they join up. As they seem to be very good at it, until you actually try and defend yourself, and challenge them back. They are so used to everyone being afraid of them and backing down, that if you do stand your ground, politely of course, they dont know what to do. And why should you have to go run and get your license for them. If you car is taxed in your name etc, then more than likely it is insured and MOT'd. They can check that your name tallies up with the owner over the radio, and probably will have before they stopped you anyway.
When I got pulled by a plain car in 1999 in my then MY99, the cop said my car was "wallowing all over the place going round the roundabout", err, I don't think so it was a Scooby not a VW Golf 1.4. What a liar.
A conversation with an officer of the law after a speeding incident...
Officer: May I see your driver's licence?
Me: I don't have one. I had it suspended when I got my 5th drunk driving penalty.
Officer: May I see the log book for the vehicle?
Me: It's not my car. I stole it.
Officer: The car is stolen?!
Me: That's right. But come to think of it, I think I saw the owners
logbook in the glovebox when I was putting my gun in there.
Officer: There's a gun in the glovebox?!!
Me: Yes sir. That's where I put it after I shot and killed the
woman who owns this car and stuffed her in the boot.
Officer: There's a body in the boot???!!!!!!!!
Me: Yes sir.
When he heard this he immediately called for "back up" and his
Sergeant. The car was quickly surrounded by armed police and the Sergeant approached me to handle the now tense situation.
Sergeant: Sir, can I see your licence?
Me: Yes. Here it is. (the licence was valid)
Sergeant: Who's car is this?
Me: It's mine officer. Here's the log book. Sergeant: Would you slowly open your glove box so I can see if there's a gun in it?
Me: Yes sir, but there's no gun in it.
Sergeant: Would you mind opening your boot? I was told you said
there's a body in it.
Me: No problem.
Sergeant: I don't understand it. The officer who stopped you said you told him you didn't have a licence, stole the car, had a gun in the glover box, and that there was a dead body in the boot.
Me: Yes. I'll bet the lying s.o.b. told you I was speeding too. Tsk, some people eh?....
