Default Forester - Weird Noise and CEL on

Hi Folks,

I have a 54 Forester 2.5 Turbo.

A few weeks back in started making a funny noise when accelerating. The noise then disappeared but it came back last night along with a check engine light.

My first thoughts was that there was a boost leak somewhere and that was the funny noise on acceleration. Today I removed the intercooler to check the Y piece underneath but there doesn't seem to be any leak from it but it was a perished condition.

Is the Y piece normally wrapped in this stuff for heat protection?

I have now removed the stuff so just left with the plastic Y piece, I plan to buy a new piece anyway so didn't mind tearing the stuff off. But the plastic Y piece underneath seems to be in tact with no holes or splits.

I have checked all other boost hoses that I can see to check for leaks etc.

Does anyone have any idea what the noise may have been?

How do I read the ecu fault code (after I replace the Y piece of course)?

Thanks
Rich

Fit like Euan?

I see they are supposed to look like that, I have ordered a new silicone one so will fit that back on next week when it arrives.

I'm working all weekend otherwise I would've popped down to see you, could manage mid week if your not too busy? Would be good to see what the fault code is

Cheers

Ok I have fault code:

P0011 Camshaft position timing over advanced 1

I have had a look at forum posts so I will check if the timing belt has skipped a tooth (solved this for a lad on Subaru forester . org)

Anything else I can be checking?

Cheers

It is due an oil change and I have oil and a filter waiting to be done.

I will have to investigate the wee filters, read something about them aswell, the joys!

Update:

I have carried out an oil & filter change.

I removed the drivers side bango and couldn't find a filter inside, see pic:

Strange. The Engine light has not come on with about 30 mile of mixed driving and the weird sound is not there anymore. The sound was a kind of whoosh whilst accelerating. I will have to put some miles on it to see if the same happens again!

The filters are usually contained inside the banjo bolt

Ok thanks for the info, funnily enough I didn't check the bolt itself but if the fault code or noise comes back again then I will do that
