Forester - Weird Noise and CEL on
Hi Folks,
I have a 54 Forester 2.5 Turbo.
A few weeks back in started making a funny noise when accelerating. The noise then disappeared but it came back last night along with a check engine light.
My first thoughts was that there was a boost leak somewhere and that was the funny noise on acceleration. Today I removed the intercooler to check the Y piece underneath but there doesn't seem to be any leak from it but it was a perished condition.
Is the Y piece normally wrapped in this stuff for heat protection?
I have now removed the stuff so just left with the plastic Y piece, I plan to buy a new piece anyway so didn't mind tearing the stuff off. But the plastic Y piece underneath seems to be in tact with no holes or splits.
I have checked all other boost hoses that I can see to check for leaks etc.
Does anyone have any idea what the noise may have been?
How do I read the ecu fault code (after I replace the Y piece of course)?
Thanks
Rich

Thats the way the look normally, i ripped all mine off thinking it was some homemade bodge job but its just insulation.
You know where i am if you want me to hook up laptop to it.
Could endoscope your turbo to check blades too

Fit like Euan?
I see they are supposed to look like that, I have ordered a new silicone one so will fit that back on next week when it arrives.
I'm working all weekend otherwise I would've popped down to see you, could manage mid week if your not too busy? Would be good to see what the fault code is
Cheers

Update:
I have carried out an oil & filter change.
I removed the drivers side bango and couldn't find a filter inside, see pic:
Strange. The Engine light has not come on with about 30 mile of mixed driving and the weird sound is not there anymore. The sound was a kind of whoosh whilst accelerating. I will have to put some miles on it to see if the same happens again!
Cheers
