Is it possible to have an over active ABS system? I notice when turning and braking it kicks in a lot. And then yesterday when in a car park at approx 1 or 2 mph parking and turning full lock right into a space, I hardly applied the brakes and something weird and grindy happened, any ideas?

 

That doesn't sound right, could be a seized caliper/ sticky piston considering the car has been sat for a while it's not really a surprise, I'd get it looked at as it's not normal, I have to stamp mine pretty hard to get the ABS to come in.

Could be a dirty ABS sensor or dirty/faulty ring. Had similar symptoms recently and the ring had actually snapped into 2 bits (one bit no where to be seen)!! New ring and it's all good!! Pricey though.

 

Yep my old 203 sti had similar issue and it was the abs ring that had a very light hairline crack that was making the abs kick in. As stated new ring was del (£105) I think but I ended buying a complete hub for £70...

I would however check your sensor first though.

have abs issue as well. need new rear sensor. main dearler has quoted £256 plus vat for part!!!!!! WTF

 

My tone rings are corroded and causing weird braking. I'm pulling the whole system out.

As above this can be ABS ring or in most cases can be the ABS sensor,which one hard to say without the Subaru Select Monitor,if you have access to SSM then with this you will know which side causing this

We have same issue with our wagon and in our case,hub has been damaged,but we are replaced all sensors and still we are got ABS error,expensive lesson learned

It's certain turning angles which give you that rejection on the pedal. Happens if I brake over drains too. Combined with the grinding noise coming from the left and the squeal from the right I think I may look at getting this sorted ASAP. Can any mechanic deal with this ABS issue?

With this you should be able read ABS,TCU and many other parameters which you will be not able read via any other program

Front abs ring isnt to bad to replace but the rear is a pita, as the ring is integrated with the hub so you will have to have the hub pressed out to replace it, so youre looking at a new abs ring and a new wheel bearing

I have a similar issue, its going to be cheaper for me to replace the entire knuckle rather than just the abs ring

 

Could be a duff wheel bearing.

 

That makes a lot more sense seeing as the mechanic said I need a wheel bearing and hub on the drivers side front. This is the next thing on my list, although didn't realise it could cause this

 

If there is a lot of play in the bearing it will in my experience cause ABS problems.

 

I wonder if there is a way for him to check the hub on the other side as well as I know the drivers side needs doing, problem being as I understand it he has to ruin the bearing to get to the hub to check?

 

Why must he ruin the bearing?.

 

if its the rear then the abs ring is bolted behind the hub where the studs come out and its pressed in

front is the same
