Hi, I'm looking for a reputable Indy in the SW / Bristol / Gloucester area who can do a vehicle inspection for me.

My 2002 WRX Wagon has gone past 130k now and I'm commuting 2.5k a month in it. It's in need of some money being thrown at it soon (brakes/suspension etc) but I'd like some to give the engine a once over so I can decide whether it's worth investing money on new parts or whether I should just run it into the ground.

My car was serviced by him under the previous owner, he used 10w60 in a standard (except panel filter and backbox) 2.5 STI. Not sure that is exactly ideal for the engines health.

 

Lots of good suggestions, thanks. Made good use of the Search function also. Got it booked in with Chris Palmer at CP Autos on Monday, for a compression and leak down test, plus general inspection. Due an oil service and may as well change the plugs also if they are coming out.

Brakes will definitely need replacing but suspension will wait until I get a verdict on the engine.

 

He gives me the option when I get my oil from him. I think you're right and the thicker oil is maybe a bit much for a standard car, which is why I get 5W40. The last owner may have insisted on the thicker stuff?

 

I never dealt with him myself so I can't comment, but I remember the previous owner telling me it was Nick's recommendation as he had taken a look at the car and he said it was remapped.... It was on a standard map when I looked at it..!

 

Nik has never steered me wrong and respect both his knowledge and work ethic...I've dealt with a few Subaru specialists in the past and I would happily recommend him over them
